TIP of the week from our super sales associate, Ken Castillo. Worried that your pool is losing too much water and that you might have a leak? You're not alone. When the temperatures start rising in the spring, many pool owners become alarmed because they are having to add more water to their pool. Usually though, this is due to simple evaporation, which is lowest in the winter months and highest in the summer. In our area, normal evaporation rates for January are 2.5 inches per month, rising to a high of 7.2 inches per month in July. In April you will normally see about 5.3 inches lost per month, or a little over 1 inch per week. If it's more than that, or you are concerned, perform a simple STATIC CHECK that can help you know if you have a leak, as well as indicate where it may be: - Fill your pool to the middle of the tile.
- Balance your water chemistry and add extra chlorine
- Turn off your equipment for a MAXIMUM OF ONE WEEK and start marking the water line daily.
- Continue monitoring FOR A MAXIMUM OF ONE WEEK or:
- until the water level stops dropping rapidly
- or the water level drops below the skimmer, lights, and any lines coming into the pool.
- Mark the lowest level and give us a call. We can advise you on your next step.
