Important Business Meeting in April

On Wednesday evening, April 20, 2016 at 6:15 PM in the Chapel Woodmont will hold its quarterly business meeting. Printed reports of various ministries and programs and the stewardship committee report will be made as usual. However, two very important new recommendations will also be presented, discussed, and voted on.
  1. The Restated Certificate of Formation for Woodmont Baptist Church will be presented.  Last week a letter was sent out to our membership highlighting the need for updating this important document. Our attorney, John Saylor, will be present to explain and answer any questions concerning the new legal document. Several copies are available throughout the church, worship center lobby, breezeway, and church office for you to view between now and the April 20th meeting.
  2. A recommendation will also be made to change the Wednesday night and Sunday night programs and activities schedules. The new schedule, if approved, would be implemented in August 2016. This is being considered to make our Sunday and Wednesday night programs more family friendly to allow kids and adults to get home earlier in the evening. One of the major changes is to expand the AWANA program and move it to Sunday night. The church staff, church council, children's ministry team, and deacons have approved the recommendation. A detailed explanation showing the existing and proposed schedules will be presented at the business meeting.
I hope you will be in prayer as we consider these important decisions and attend the quarterly business meeting on Wednesday, April 20th at 6:15 PM.

Under His grace,

Steve

Reese's Pieces

2016, so far, has been a tumultuous year for me, a series of highs and lows. I had an abscess that required three root canals and oral surgery! I caught the flu and missed a week of work THE WEEK OF OUR EASTER CONCERT! And I found out I'm going to be a grandpa in September EVEN THOUGH I AM WAY TOO YOUNG TO BE A GRANDPA! And it's only March! I can't even think about what the next nine months might bring.

As I write this, it is Holy Week, and I ponder the highs and lows that our Lord experienced in those last days of His incarnation. From being lauded and hailed as the Messiah by adoring crowds when He rode into Jerusalem, to His agonizing pleas in the garden; from the unimaginably savage and violent crimes that took His life, to the stone being rolled victoriously away from the tomb; those days were an emotional roller coaster for the Son of God.

Even though my mountaintops and dark valleys don't even begin to compare with all of that (and neither do yours), Jesus showed us how to live through good times and the bad. I love the balance of humanity and Deity that He demonstrated while staring death in the face. He exhibited humanity when He cried out, "If there is any way, take this cup from me," and "My God, why have You forsaken me?" On the other hand, He displayed His divine nature when He submitted Himself to His killers without a word like a lamb to the slaughter, and when He prayed, "Father, forgive them; they don't know what they're doing."

I, too, am a conflicted bundle of frail humanity mixed with the very image of God, and I don't often get the balance right when circumstances become extreme. But I observe that balance achieved by my Savior as He walked the earth, dealing with the likes of Pharisees and disciples. I pray for that balance in my own life--to be like Jesus faithfully, truly, consistently, whether I'm in the oral surgeon's chair having my gums cut on or in a rocking chair on the back porch with a fuzzy little tike spitting up on my shoulder.  May Christ be my all in all.
