Week of August 1, 2016

School Starts August 24
Dienst Scholarship funded with $50,000 to Education Foundaton

Dienst Family Scholarship Fifty Dickinson High school seniors will receive a $1,000 college scholarship thanks to a contribution of $50,000 donated to the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation by Mike and Donna Dienst to form the Dienst Family Scholarship. The couple requested that $5,000 in scholarships be awarded each year for the next 10 years to fund 50 scholarships for students to get a start in a technical program.

"We are thrilled to be able to give back to a community that we have grown up in and our kids and grandkids are now in," said Mike Dienst.

Dienst added that he learned a lot growing up in the Dickinson community, and he is very proud that his family is able to help the next generation take a step in continuing their education. Both Mike and Donna and their children are graduates of Dickinson High School and the couple's grandchildren currently attend Dickinson ISD schools.

DHS Class of 2017 Graduation to
be held May 30 at Moody Gardens

Dickinson ISD will be hosting the Dickinson High School Class of 2017 Graduation Ceremony indoors at the Moody Gardens Convention Center in Galveston. The ceremony is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017. The decision was made this summer to move the ceremony to an indoor facility next year because of the very unpredictable Texas weather.

By moving the ceremony to a large indoor facility, the district will not have to develop weather contingency plans that significantly limit the number of guests that each graduate can invite to graduation.

Moody Gardens offers a large venue that allows graduates to have more family members and friends attend the ceremony without worrying about rain or heat. More information will be shared with the senior class after the start of the school year.
