From August 1-15, 2016, Dickinson ISD parents will be able to take advantage of the district's online registration process for returning students. These are students who attended a Dickinson ISD campus at the end of the 2015-2016 school year and will be returning for the 2016-2017 school year.
A copy of proof of residency is still required to be dropped off at the campus; however, this can be done during a two-week period in August, without having to stand in lines normally associated with registration each year.
The online registration process will be available through the school district website at www.dickinsonisd.org. The district will have complete instructions on the website to walk parents through the steps they need to take. The process will be the same as the past couple of years.
In order to complete the online registration process, parents must have their login information (user name and password) for Skyward Family Access. If a parent does not have login information, this can be obtained by showing proper identification in the front office at their child's school. Please make sure you have obtained login information ahead of time so you are not delayed in registering your student online. For parents without access to the Internet, computers and assistance will be available at the campuses during designated times to complete the online registration process. More information about these times can be found in the registration information listed in this newsletter.
Parents of students new to Dickinson ISD for 2016-2017 must visit the campus their child will attend and complete the registration process in person as there is more paperwork involved for new students.
More information on documents required as well as dates for new student registration can be found in the found in the district's 2016-2017 Back to School Packet.

Lobit Education Village to open in August with new elementary and middle school
The start of each new school year is full of excitement, but this August is a little extra special as Dickinson ISD unveils the new Lobit Education Village with two new campuses to help accommodate the district's growing student enrollment. Louis G. Lobit Elementary and Elva C. Lobit Middle School are providing additional classrooms for students in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade, but they are also enabling the district to implement many new innovative ways of teaching students.
While the elementary and middle school are two separate schools, they will be connected as one large campus and share several common facilities, such as the library, office areas, kitchen, cafeteria, parking areas and mechanical spaces.
The design of the educational village features many collaborative, open areas with lots of windows. Windows will separate classrooms from indoor commons areas, allowing teachers to teach inside the classroom, while having small groups of students working on special projects in common areas.
A large outdoor courtyard is included in the middle of the schools and will serve as an outdoor classroom with different learning stations and seating areas.
One large kitchen will serve both schools, which will each have a separate stage and lunch room area that is separated by a partition. However, when the school or district hosts evening student and parents events, the partition can be easily moved to accommodate more guests in one large room.

Special registration procedures in place for students attending Lobit Education Village
Crews are busy finishing up construction of the district's new Lobit Education Village opening in August. Because of construction, there are special registration procedures this school year for students who will be attending Lobit Elementary or Lobit Middle School.
Registration for new Dickinson ISD students who are zoned to Lobit Elementary or Lobit Middle School will be held at Calder Road Elementary. A designated area for Lobit Education Village registration will be set up at Calder Road Elementary from 1-7 p.m. August 4 or 8 a.m.-12 p.m. August 5.
Students zoned to Lobit for 2016-2017 and who attended a Dickinson ISD campus last school year should complete the online registration process. Proof of residency can be dropped off in a box at Calder Road Elementary labeled "Lobit Education Village Proof of Residency."
For more information about what to bring to register your student or requirements for pre-kindergarten or kindergarten, please refer to the information in this newsletter regarding Elementary Registration or Middle School Registration.
