Memorial Day and Last Day of School

DHS preparing for 650 Gator grads
Ceremony set for 7:30 p.m. June 3

Senior Walk A record number of 650 seniors will become Gator graduates at the 2016 Commencement. The ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 3 in Sam Vitanza Stadium, on the Dickinson High School campus. Gates will open at 6 p.m. for guests to begin arriving.

For those unable to attend the graduation ceremony in person, Dickinson ISD will be providing a live stream of the ceremony on the district website at www.dickinsonisd.org. Those interested in viewing the live stream will find a link prominently displayed on the homepage of the district website the night of graduation. Viewers may click on that link to view the ceremony from their computer.

The detailed inclement weather plan is outlined on the Dickinson High School homepage, or by clicking here. Depending upon the exact weather conditions, several different weather options could take place.
  • In the event of inclement weather beginning prior to the time that graduates have assembled for the ceremony and is predicted to continue throughout the event, the ceremony will be postponed until 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4. If the same weather conditions continue on Saturday evening, the event will be held inside the DHS competition gymnasium.
  •  If inclement weather begins after graduates have assembled for the ceremony on Friday evening and the delay is less than one hour, the ceremony will follow the planned agenda outside. If the delay is more than one hour, an abbreviated ceremony will be held in Sam Vitanza Stadium with speeches occurring beforehand in the gymnasium while graduates are waiting on the rain to stop.
  • If the rain/storms begin after graduates have assembled, and the weather is not predicted to clear prior to 9:30 p.m., the graduation ceremony will occur in the DHS competition gymnasium and each student will be issued two tickets for the gymnasium and two tickets for an alternate location (either the DHS Auditorium or the McAdams Junior High Auditorium) where the ceremony will be streamed, weather permitting. Each student will receive an envelope during the graduation practice on Wednesday, June 1 with their allotted indoor tickets. Students must give these tickets to their family members before arriving at DHS because they will not be allowed to leave to hand out tickets if an indoor ceremony is necessary.

Any changes in graduation plans due to the weather will be publicized on the homepage of the school district website(www.dickinsonisd.org), on the district's social media pages (Facebook and Twitter) and in special editions of this Gator Bytes email newsletter.

Education Foundation out in the community...

The Dickinson ISD Education Foundation has been busy in the community lately at several different events. The Houston Dynamo donated 50 free tickets to a soccer game, which were given out to employees supporting the Education Foundation through the Cornerstone Club. The community came out to two different fundraisers, one at Panera Bread and another at Click-Fil-A in League City where a portion of the proceeds where donated to the Education Foundation.

Another fundraiser is planned on Monday, June 6 at Kendra Scott - Baybrook location. The Education Foundation will receive 20 percent of all purchases made from 6-8 p.m. Also on June 6, Kona Grill at Baybrook will donate 10 percent of all sales during the day to the Education Foundation.

The Education Foundation's goal is to enrich children's lives through grants, scholarships and providing fun opportunities for families to spend time together.
