Congratulations to DHS Boys Basketball on successful season
A District Championship title now belongs to the Dickinson High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team. This is the first time in school history for the boys basketball team to earn the district title. The team earned the title after a 52-46 win over Clear Creek High School. The team came up short in the first round of playoffs with a very close 75-72 loss to Alief Taylor in the first round; however, they can be proud of a great season. Several players were recognized with individual honors for their performance this season. They include Jarian Spells as the District MVP, Damon Williams and Faite Williams as First Team All District and Byron Staten and Myles Rankin as Honorable Mention All District. Head Coach Jason Wilson also earned the honor of Coach of the Year for District 24-6A. Other members of the District Championship team include Blake Carlisle, Tyler Higbee, Gary Horton, Daniel James, Montel Parker, Darrell Small, Darius Smith, Taderek Smith, Malik Williams and Marques Williams.

Welcome new Dickinson ISD administrators...
Three familiar faces are serving the district in new roles this semester.
Sherri Blackburn is the new principal at San Leon Elementary, replacing Stephanie Williams who will serve as principal of Lobit Elementary. Blackburn has 16 years of education experience, including seven years in Dickinson ISD. She is already very familiar with San Leon, having served as assistant principal for five years before moving over to serve as assistant principal at Bay Colony Elementary since 2014.
Replacing Blackburn as assistant principal at Bay Colony is Julie O'Gea. She is moving from McAdams Junior High, where she has served as an academic coach since coming to work in Dickinson ISD two years ago. Before Dickinson, O'Gea worked in Alvin ISD as a teacher for English and also the AVID program. O'Gea is a proud 1987 Dickinson High School graduate.
Julie Abram is taking on the role of Director of Secondary Programs later this spring. She has worked in Dickinson ISD for the past four years as an assistant principal at Dickinson High School. Abram has a total of 25 years of education experience.

Message from the Superintendent...
Welcome to Dickinson ISD -- Gator Nation!
What is Gator Nation? We have been reflecting on this question a lot lately as we continue to grow and plan for the future in Dickinson ISD.
For many of us, it is not something that can be put into words, but it is a feeling. To help convey this feeling, we recently worked with the Dickinson High School video broadcast classes, "Gator Vision Network," to create a promotional marketing video about the school district and help others experience Gator Nation.
The outcome is an exceptional four-minute video that is available on our district website at www.dickinsonisd.org. The video, which includes interviews from several proud "Gators," was completely produced, filmed and directed by the students and their teachers. The video displays some of the incredible talent of our students and the opportunities available to them to prepare for future careers.
A family atmosphere, connections, working together, supporting the schools and students, and extending outside school and into the community to set our students on a path to achieve success were the common themes among those interviewed by the students.
One summed up the feeling very well by simply saying it is the "Heart of Being a Gator!"
We are very fortunate in Dickinson ISD to have great community support. Parents, community members and businesses support the Gators in a variety of ways. A perfect example is the thousands of fans who cheer on our sports teams and who line the streets to send off our students to success as they travel out of town for a band contest or sporting event.
It is the donations of time and money for school events, projects and trips and the parent and community members who volunteer in our schools on a daily basis. Dickinson ISD's success would not be possible without the support of our Gator Nation -- whether it is our alumni, parents who have chosen Dickinson ISD as their home to raise their family, or our employees including many who graduated from DHS and chose to return to work in their hometown.
The support of Gator Nation has helped our students and teachers achieve many great things and continue to dream about the opportunities in the future.
We will open a state-of-the-art Education Village in August to serve students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Our community has supported the school district through bond referendums to provide the funding needed to build new campuses for our growing student enrollment and renovate and expand current facilities. In turn, we have the facilities and space needed to provide our students with the opportunities they need to succeed after high school graduation -- whether it is in college or entering the workforce.
The support of Gator Nation is paying off as we continue to see our students succeeding.
Dickinson ISD was one of only 130 districts in the United States and 22 in Texas named to the College Board's Gaston Caperton Opportunity Honor Roll for providing opportunities to students for success in college. The district will open a new STEM Academy in August for 100 fifth grade students to engage in innovative science, technology, engineering and math instruction. Our athletic teams have represented our district across the state with football being named Regional Champions, the Powerlifting Team as State Champions and most recently the Boys Basketball Team earning their first-ever District Championship.
Our Fine Arts Department has students earning top honors in band and choir, including most recently three Dickinson High School students named to the All-State Band. The marching band regularly advances to the State Marching Contest, most recently being the 18th band out of more than 400 6A Bands in the state.
Our Food and Nutrition Services Department has been recognized nationally for their new meal packaging system at Dickinson High School to aid the success of the school's SMART Lunch program. Other new programs such as "Herbs for Healthy Kids Diets" have earned the department local and state awards for encouraging and teaching students tips for healthy eating.
These are just a few of the exciting things happening in Dickinson ISD and what makes Gator Nation a great place to work, live and educate our children. Thank you for being part of and supporting Gator Nation.
