Open Doors Tutorials
Dickinson High School offers the Lighted Windows Open Doors tutoring program from 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the DHS Library. This program provides students at all grade levels with extra tutoring in core subjects.

On Tuesdays, tutoring is available for Social Studies, English Language Arts, Math and Spanish; while on Thursdays, help is available for English Language Arts, Science, Math and Spanish.

The DHS Library is also open to all community members during these times to use the available resources including computers, tutoring and library reading and research materials.

DISD community celebrates Homecoming festivities
 
Homecoming Queen and King It was a sellout crowd at Sam Vitanza Stadium this past Friday night as fans came out for Dickinson High School's Homecoming Game against Clear Brook High School. In fact, after selling out the home side at the beginning of the first quarter, the district opened up sections of the visitors side to Dickinson fans.

Just before the game began, the packed stands were able to see an overjoyed Victoria De La Garza crowned Homecoming Queen with a surprise video announcement on the scoreboard from Houston Texans player J.J. Watt.
 
Earlier in the week, Jordan Myers was crowned Homecoming King at the Community Pep Rally. The Dickinson Historical Society made a special presentation to the school district in honor of he district's 125th anniversary of having a school in the Dickinson community.
 
The annual Homecoming Parade drew hundreds to see the Homecoming court and parade entries from DHS clubs and organizations, other Dickinson ISD schools and community organizations. The winners of the parade entry judging were first place, Dunbar Middle School; second place, McAdams Junior High; and third place, DHS Drama.

The Homecoming Court also included queen candidates Mimi DeLeon, Alison Guffey, Summer Harris and Mallory Moore, while Christian Castellanos, Nathan Guillory, Malcolm Hall and John Little served as Homecoming King candidates. Representing the freshman class were Regan Broussard and Landon Roque, sophomores Isabella Atkins and Bryon Broussard and juniors Mercedes Nunez and Darrell Small.

Gators prepare for 7 p.m. Thursday, October 8
away game against Clear Falls High School
 
With a 5-0 record, the Gators have an away game this week against Clear Falls High School. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, October 8 at Clear Creek ISD's Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2305 East Main Street in League City.
 
Advance tickets are on sale in the DHS Field House until 3 p.m. today and again on Thursday from 8 a.m.-12 noon for $6 adults and $4 for high school students. All tickets purchased at the gate are $8.

Dickinson ISD Alumni Association to recognize
six distinguished graduates October 16-17
 
The accomplishments of six Dickinson High School alumni will be recognized later this month when the Dickinson ISD Alumni Association hosts its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards and Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor Banquet. The banquet is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 in the Gilruth Center at NASA Johnson Space Center.

These prestigious awards recognize Dickinson ISD graduates who have excelled in sports, their field of expertise or made significant contributions to their communities or through their chosen professions. The Dickinson ISD Alumni Association is celebrating its sixth year of the Distinguished Alumni Awards, while the Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor is inducting its 15th class of former DHS athletes who have excelled in sports. Several years ago, the two organizations joined together to recognize both groups at the annual banquet in October.
 
This year's Distinguished Alumni honorees include Diane Dues Magliolo, Diane Farmilette Mackey, Kristine Annexstad Harding and Gordon Johnson.

Diane Magliolo is a 1968 graduate of DHS who is a very active volunteer in the Dickinson and San Leon communities and assists her husband in his medical practice. Diane Mackey graduated from DHS in 1977 and is co-owner of Mackey Mechanical Services along with volunteering with the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation as well as many other Dickinson organizations. A 1978 graduate of DHS, Kristine Harding is vice president and group manager at KPS Group, Inc., an architectural firm in Huntsville, Alabama. Gordon Johnson, a 1984 DHS graduate, started the Dickinson Gators Football Facebook page, where he has archived over 6,000 historical photos and has grown its audience to over 5,500 Gator fans, while also running his own marketing consulting company.

The Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor recipients are Paul Hardilek and Jimmy Hardilek.

Paul Hardilek, a 1978 DHS graduate, is being inducted for his athletic accomplishments in the sport of baseball. He was a four-year varsity letterman who earned several all-district honors in high school. He has been an equipment manager for most of his career, currently working at Dashiell Corporation. Jimmy Hardilek, a 1996 DHS graduate, excelled in football throughout high school. He received a full four-year scholarship to McNeese State University where he started at right tackle all four years. Jimmy served as a DH
S offensive line coach from 2004-2013 and currently works as an operator at Lyondell Basell.
 
All of the recipients will be recognized before the start of the DHS varsity football game on Friday, Oct. 16 in Sam Vitanza Stadium. The annual banquet is planned the following evening, with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets can be purchased before Oct. 12 for $35 online at www.dickinsonisdalumni.com, or at Mackey Mechanical Services, Dennis Cooke State Farm Insurance and McRee Ford.

Dickinson ISD Billboard Dickinson ISD is proud of the accomplishments of our students and employees! We are sharing this good news with the community through a special billboard this school year in honor of the district's 125th anniversary of having a school in the Dickinson community. It is located on the west side of I-45 between Highway 96/League City Parkway and FM 646. It you are coming into Dickinson from Houston, watch for it just as you pass Highway 96/League City Parkway.
