Parade/Pep Rally Wednesday, Game Friday
Gators celebrate
2015 Homecoming
There will be a big birthday party parading down FM 517 Wednesday afternoon as the entire community joins together to celebrate the Dickinson High School Homecoming. The theme of this year's parade, "125 Years - A Gator Tradition: Happy Birthday Dickinson ISD" is in honor of the district's yearlong celebration.
The Dickinson community is invited to come out, celebrate and cheer on the parade participants, who are encouraged to decorate their floats in the birthday theme. The Homecoming parade will start at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the shopping center located at the corner of FM 517 and 1266, the same starting location as the past several years. The parade will include decorated floats and participants from DHS clubs and organizations, other Dickinson ISD schools and community organizations. Line-up for those participating in the parade is at 4:45 p.m. The parade will travel east on FM 517, turn left in front of DHS on Baker Drive and travel down to Sam Vitanza Stadium. When the parade arrives at Sam Vitanza Stadium, a community pep rally is planned. A special recognition is planned this year to start the pep rally with the Dickinson Historical Society making a presentation to Dickinson ISD in honor of the anniversary year celebration. During the pep rally, the entire Homecoming Court will be introduced and the Homecoming King will be crowned.
Crowning of the Homecoming Queen will take place during halftime at the game on Friday, Oct. 2. The Gators will play Clear Brook High School at 7 p.m. in Sam Vitanza Stadium. The DHS Band and Diamonds Dance Team will be moving their halftime performances until after the game to allow for the Homecoming festivities during halftime.
Advance tickets for the Homecoming game will be sold 8 a.m.-3 p.m.Tuesday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-12 noon Friday for $8 reserved, $6 general admission and $4 high school students. Ticket prices at the gate Friday night are $10 reserved section and $8 general admission.
Homecoming Queen candidates include Victoria De la Garza, Mimi DeLeon, Alison Guffey, Summer Harris and Mallory Moore, while Christian Castellanos, Nathan Guillory, Malcolm Hall, John Little and Jordan Myers are vying for the honor of Homecoming King.
Also included on the Homecoming Court are freshman representatives Regan Broussard and Landon Roque, sophomores Isabella Atkins and Bryon Broussard and juniors Mercedes Nunez and Darrell Small.
The DHS students will get in the Homecoming spirit throughout this week with special spirit days. Today, students are wearing their red, white and blue with "'Merica Monday," while on Tuesday it is western dress for "Stomp the Wolverines." Students will be showing their school spirit by wearing their favorite jersey on Wednesday and dressing up in the favorite decade for Throwback Thursday. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Gator blue on Friday for a "Blue Out" in preparation for the game later that evening. While DHS students are encouraged to have fun and get into the Homecoming spirit days, they are still expected to dress appropriately according to the school dress code.

Dickinson well represented at cancer fun run
Dickinson ISD won first place for participation at the B.I.G. Love Cancer Care Fun Run held Saturday in Pearland. Trish Lankford, Director of Career and Technical Education and Career Readiness, has participated in the event for the past four years in honor of her daughter, Claire, who passed away two years ago after a courageous battle with cancer. Each year, the DISD participation has grown with the district coming in second place last year and first place this year with more than 80 runners.
This was the second year in a row for the DHS Varsity Football Team to participate in the fun run. They were joined by coaches, DHS cheerleaders, FFA students plus other DISD staff and students. DHS also held a toy drive this past week to help provide for the organization's toy chest. The fun run's organizers were extremely complimentary of the Dickinson students and staff participating.
B.I.G. Love Cancer Care is a non-profit organization which provides small toys for children undergoing cancer treatment at Texas Children's Hospital. After procedures, children are able to pick a prize from a toy chest. The organization also makes weekly visits to the cancer patients and their families to grant wishes such as food items, toiletries, toys, etc. to help ease their hospital stay. They spend approximately $5,000 each week granting wishes and keeping the toy chest filled.
