One Act Play named District Champs;

advancing to Bi-District April 11

The Dickinson High School One Act Play will be moving on to the Bi-District level after earning the District Championship this past weekend against the seven other schools in our UIL district. This year's play is Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire. It depicts a couple who deals with a life-shattering accident that turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Individual awards were given to Hayden Todd, All Star Cast; Samantha Jaramillo, Honorable Mention All-Star Cast; and Ciara Compton, Technical Award.

Students involved in the play included cast members Samantha Jaramillo, Hayden Todd, Kell Bernardo, Alia Brown and Adriana Etie; crew members Ciara Compton, Cathy Davis, Micheal Salas, Catherine Romero and Wesley Batiste; and alternates Ricky Miller, Gerik Lyssy, Falon Olver, Maggie Bledsoe, Valentina Rubio, Sam Brown, Ambree Feaster, Haley Travis, and Kane Rimpler.

DHS Shattered Dreams program set for April 7-8

to teach the dangers of drinking and driving

If you are driving by Dickinson High School next Tuesday morning, April 7, don't be alarmed if you see a very realistic looking "car accident" with law enforcement and EMS representatives onsite. The Shattered Dreams program teaches students the impact of teenage drinking and driving starting with students enacting a mock car crash.

Later that evening, students involved in the program gather for a retreat to reflect on the impact on the car accident and what it would be like if the crash had actually happened and their friends were killed or injured. The program wraps up the following morning when all DHS students attend an assembly to talk about the importance of not drinking and driving.

Dickinson FFA participates in Houston Rodeo

The Dickinson FFA was hard at work this past month participating in several parts of the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Dickinson FFA had five participants in the opening night March 3 in the HLSR Calf Scramble, including Sabrina Doyle, Isabella Arrazola, Katy Palmer, Trisha Perkins and Haley Larsen. Sabrina Doyle and Isabella Arrazola both earned Hardship Awards which will allow them to purchase a calf to raise and show at next year's rodeo. Nineteen Dickinson FFA members also competed and earned second place in the Educational Tours Program on March 6.

While many were busy starting their Spring Break, FFA members were busy at the animal showings. The Dickinson group took eight heifers to the show March 12-16. These students worked hard all year with their animals participating in different livestock shows, including a lot of early mornings, late nights and long days.

Several students also participated in the Junior Breeding Heifer Show and the Junior Market Steer Show at the Houston Rodeo.

In the Junior Breeding Heifer Show, two students, Colton Cooper and Triston Amason, participated in the Calf Scramble Show. This show was for the students that caught at last year's Calf Scramble and raised a calf for the year to bring back and show at the HLSR. Colton placed fourth in his class and Triston placed eighth in his class in the Calf Scramble Show. In the Junior Breeding Heifer Show, seven students participated including Thazerein Smalley (3rd), Triston Amason (7th), Zachary Waggoner (9th), Shellbie Elledge (14th), Colton Cooper(15th), Ashley Ferrell(15th) and Katie Palmer(15th). All the students did great and have been working hard for this all year.

In Junior Market Steer, Chance Cummings placed 14th and Dillon Holcombe placed 10th in the Calf Scramble Show. Five students, Chance Cummings, Dillon Holcombe, Cody Barron, Dalton Padgett and Cristina Perez all participated in the show.

Dickinson FFA had a great time at the HLSR and is now focusing on getting ready for the Galveston County Fair April 10-18, where they have close to 90 students participating.
