Human Resources
October 9 is Texas Education Human Resources  Day

Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed October 9 as Texas Education Human Resources Day as an opportunity to thank human resources professionals in the education field for their efforts in hiring quality teachers and support staff to serve the needs of Texas students.

A special thank you to the Dickinson ISD Human Resources Department for everything they do in recruiting and hiring quality teachers and support staff members to join our Gator team!

Did You Know.....

Fast Facts
about DISD

Dickinson ISD's Transportation Department provides bus service to all Dickinson ISD students, regardless of their home's proximity to the school. We are one of very few school districts that still provides bus service to students who live closer than two miles from the school.

Other facts...

*  We transport approximately 5,500 students a day to and from school -- which is more than half of the district's enrollment.

*  The district has 54 regular education bus routes and 15 special needs bus routes each day.

*  Our bus drivers cover 68 square miles driving a total of approximately 5,000 miles a day.

The Transportation Department is currently looking for quality bus drivers. If you are interested in a position, visit the Transportation Department at 4005 Video Street to fill out an application.

Week of September 30, 2013
Breakfast available to all students
at three elementary campuses

apple-sm.jpgA free breakfast is available to all students at three Dickinson ISD elementary campuses this school year. The "Universal Breakfast" program is now offered at San Leon, K.E. Little and Silbernagel elementary schools.

Because of the high number of students qualifying for the free and reduced meal program at those schools, the Food and Nutrition Department is able to offer the free breakfast option to all students.

If your student attends one of these three schools, encourage them to take advantage of having a nutritious and free breakfast at school to start their day.

DISD to honor Paul LaFleur with
Sam Vitanza Press Box naming

Paul LaFleurFor years, Paul LaFleur was the voice of the Gators as he volunteered his time as an announcer at Dickinson ISD athletic events. Now more than 30 years later, his name will forever me remembered as the Press Box at Sam Vitanza Stadium has been named in his honor.

LaFleur served Dickinson ISD for 27 years as a well-loved math teacher and counselor at Dickinson High School. He was also well-known for attending student events and games outside of the regular school day and volunteering his time as an announcer. He retired in May 1985 and unfortunately, passed away a couple of months later.

To honor the naming of the Press Box, a short ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, October 18 in the DHS competition gymnasium, followed by a reception with light refreshments in the gymnasium foyer. Later that evening at 7 p.m., the DHS varsity football team will take on Clear Brook High School in Sam Vitanza Stadium. Paul LaFleur's family as well as the newest inductees to the Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor and Dickinson ISD Distinguished Alumni will be recognized. Tickets to the game can be purchased during school hours that week, through 1 p.m. Friday, at the Barry Lussier Field House or at the ticket booth on game night.

For more information, contact the Dickinson ISD Public Information Office at 281-229-6080.
