Carla Voelkel named new Deputy Superintendent for Educational Services
 Carla Voelkel is the district's new Deputy Superintendent for Educational Services, replacing Dr. Rhonda Parmer. Voelkel is in a sense coming home and bringing with her 34 years of education experience. Currently the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Channelview ISD for the past three years, Voelkel spent the majority of her career in Galveston County. She lived in Dickinson for 17 years and spent the first 24 years of her career in Texas City ISD.
She started as a high school teacher in Texas City and was then promoted to assistant principal and principal positions before serving as Director of Elementary Education. In 2003, she moved to Alvin ISD, where she served as Director of Curriculum Services and Executive Director of Secondary Education before moving to Channelview ISD in 2010.
Voelkel earned her bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University and her master's degree and superintendent's certification from the University of Houston - Clear Lake. She and her husband have one son, a 2012 graduate of Texas A&M University.
"I am so excited to be back in Galveston County working for a district with extremely high expectations for students and staff. I am looking forward to being a part of such a productive team," said Voelkel.

Dr. Vonda Washington joining Dunbar Middle School as new principal
Dr. Vonda Washington will be joining the staff at Dunbar Middle School as Principal. Washington comes to Dickinson ISD with 19 years of education experience. She has been in Fort Bend ISD for the past eight years, having served as an elementary school principal for five years and a middle school principal for the past three years. Before Fort Bend ISD, she worked as a teacher and an assistant principal in Alief ISD.
"I love being around middle school children. It is a great experience to see them grow and mature academically and socially. I am looking forward to having a life-long positive impact on the middle school students at Dunbar," said Washington.
Washington earned her bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University, a master's degree from Prairie View University, her doctorate from Lamar University and her superintendent's certification from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She has two children -- daughter Darian will be a high school senior and son Ezra will be a freshman. |
