Two District Teachers of the Year
named at Education Foundation Gala

District Teachers of the Year

Diana Hinds and Misty Coyle-Jacobs will be representing Dickinson ISD in the Region 4 Teacher of the Year process. The were announced as the District Teachers of the Year honorees at Dickinson ISD's Education Foundation Gala earlier this month.

Hinds, who was named the District Elementary Teacher of the Year, is a third grade bilingual/self-contained teacher at K.E. Little Elementary. She earned her 15-year Dickinson ISD service award this year. Coyle-Jacobs, who was named the District Secondary Teacher of the Year, is a fifth grade science teacher at Barber Middle School, who is also very involved in the district's Robotics prorgram. She has seven years of teaching experience, all in Dickinson ISD.

Both Hinds and Coyle-Jacobs are working on a lengthy application which will be submitted to Region 4 in June to be judged with other honorees in the area. They will be honored at a Region 4 Teacher of the Year banquet in August, where the regional honorees will be announced to advance to the state contest.

Good luck Diana and Misty!

Be a "CHAMP" to a Dickinson ISD student by helping them with their reading

The Dickinson ISD CHAMPS (Community Helpers Accelerate Many Promising Students) Program is available in most Dickinson ISD elementary schools as a way to pair up a community volunteer with a student to help the student with reading skills. If you have 30 minutes to one hour a week to volunteer, contact Kathy Rossacci at krossacci@dickinsonisd.org or contact one of the Dickinson ISD elementary campuses to see about volunteering.

 K.E. Little CHAMPS volunteers
K.E. Little students thank their CHAMPS volunteers for the year. Volunteers include Florence Mackey, Leesa Hammons, Christina Webster, Kahryn Reynolds, David Phillips and Lauri Moorhead with students Madison Cornell, Kaylee Nguyen, Abigail Cervantes, Cole McNeil, Evelyn Vargas, Crystal Hernandez and Carolina Camargo.
Fun with art...
Students get creative at DHS Art Camp

Bay Colony student at DHS art eventThe Dickinson High School National Art Honor Society offered a "May Day Art Camp" earlier this month for younger students to learn different art techniques. The NAHS students sponsored and taught the different projects, led by DHS Art Teacher Colleen Steblein. The younger students celebrated May Day by making projects inspired from celebrations around the world.

Bay Colony students at DHS art club eventThey made Koinbori (Koi fish flag banners), tie-dye paper to make flowers and clay ceramic wall plants from textured red clay.

Several Bay Colony Elementary students were among those that participated in the event and some are shown making their art projects.
