Gatorzillas organize donations for West before heading to national competition

The Dickinson High School Gatorzillas Robotics Team is now in St. Louis, Missouri, competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition Championships; however, they took time out at the end of last week to organize a trip to West, Texas to deliver more than 4,600 pounds of non-perishable food items, water, household items and school supplies for the families affected by last week's explosion. Several members of the team drove to West this past Saturday with the Gatorzillas trailer full of supplies. The Gatorzillas wanted to thank everyone in the school district and the community for the quick delivery of supplies last Thursday and Friday. "It was greatly appreciated and we hope that we can continue to show that Dickinson is a community in which we pull together to help others," said Barber teacher Misty Coyle-Jacobs.
Three MJHS Bands earn Sweepstakes;
Varsity Band makes history with
impressive showing at first UIL contest

The McAdams Junior High Bands recently participated in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Competition. In a history making event, the Varsity Band (fourth band) participated in the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Competition for the first time in the history of the DISD band program. All of the other three bands, Honors Band, Symphonic Band and Concert Band, earned their third consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Award in Concert and Sight Reading by receiving straight Division 1 ratings from all six judges.
