MJHS "Do The
Write Thing"
Challenge
Congratulations to two McAdams Junior High eighth grade students, Skyla Davis and Brandon Forward, II, who were named the school finalists in the "Do The Write Thing" Challenge. They are taught by teachers Lou Harris and Ann Zamora. The students and teachers will be recognzied at a ceremony this spring at Minute Maid Park. |
AVID Parent Meeting March 28
There will be a mandatory meeting Thursday, March 28 for parents with students in the Dickinson High School AVID Program. The meeting, "High School and Beyond - The Big Picture," will be held in the DHS Large Group Instruction Room with refreshments at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Spanish translation will be provided. |

Student/Teacher holiday March 29
Students and teachers will have a holiday on Good Friday, March 29. The day is listed on the school calendar as a possible Bad Weather Make-Up Day, but since we have not missed any schools days for bad weather this year, it will be a holiday. |
MJHS Dance Teams earn championship honors at Spring Break competition
The McAdams Junior High Dance Teams, the "Royals" and the "Royal Gems," came back to school after Spring Break as national title holders in each category they entered in the Crowd Pleasers National Competition. They scored superior scores in every performance, including solos, duets, ensembles and team.
The Royals won Team National Champions in Lyrical, Hip Hop and Open. They also hold the title of Overall Team National Champions. The Royal Gems won Team National Champions in Jazz. They hold the title of Overall Team National First Runner-Up. The McAdams Dance Teams are led by director Tricia Robertson.

Two DHS Powerlifters headed to state championship this weekend
Two Dickinson High School powerlifters will be representing DHS and Dickinson ISD at the State Powerlifting Competition this Saturday in Abilene. The chance to compete at state was gained after top achievements at the Regional Powerlifting Championship held the first weekend of Spring Break. The DHS Powerlifting Team was also awarded First Place overall.
Senior Kenny Nguyen placed first in the 132 Class with a total weight lifted of 1,290 pounds. He also broke several regional records in the 132 Class, including a bench press of 350 pounds, squat of 490 pounds and overall weighted lifted for 132 Class of 1,290 pounds. Kenny was also selected as the Best Overall Lifter at the regional meet. Also attending state will be sophomore Cecilio Hernandez, who earned Second Place in the 114 Class with a total weight lifted of 795 pounds.
At Regionals, five other athletes also had impressive achievements. They included: Alec DeLeon - Third Place in 132 Class, lifting 1,020 pounds; Fidencio Cruz - Fourth Place in 132 Class, lifting 1,015 pounds; Thomas Bridges - Seventh Place in 165 Class, lifting 1,145 pounds; Charles Flores - Fifth Place in 242 Class, lifting 1,420 pounds; and Chance Harmanson - Ninth Place in SHW Class, lifting 1,345 pounds. The Powerlifting Team is led by Coach Earl Ricicar. |
DHS girls earn top honors
at HerWorld Event in Houston
A group of 20 female students from Dickinson High School recently attended the HerWorld Event in Houston, which is a national program sponsored by DeVry University aimed at introducing high school, female students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) careers and inspiring them to reach their fullest potential. Over 400 girls attended the event from the greater Houston area. Students were divided into groups of five to compete in interactive workshops that included assembling a night light kit, payroll computation, HIT-Digestive System and taking apart a personal computer.
Dickinson High School students were among the group members that took first and second place. DHS winning students included:

DHS Volleyball Team raises $1,500 for
breast cancer awareness organization
 The Dickinson High School Volleyball Team recently raised $1,500 for The Rose, a local non-profit organization focused since 1986 on breast cancer awareness and providing access to screening, diagnosis and treatment services to individuals regardless of their ability to pay. The team sold "Dig Pink" t-shirts and accepted donations. Dunbar receives Spring Break snack packs through Maxim Group donation
 The Communities in Schools organization was recently able to get Dunbar Middle School adopted by the Maxim Group. Maxim purchased Christmas gifts for a few of the Communities in Schools families and before Spring Break they provided more than 100 snack packs for some Dunbar students to have over the Spring Break holiday. Dunbar teachers and staff also joined in and helped donate snacks. Thank you Maxim Group for your support of Dickinson ISD students. |
