Rachel's Legacy program to be presented Jan. 30 at DHS to students, community
Dickinson High School is building upon an effort they started during the 2011-2012 school year to help inspire students, teachers, as well as the community to replace acts of violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and compassion.
Rachel's Legacy, the second part of the training offered through the Rachel's Challenge organization, is coming to Dickinson High School on January 30 with student presentations during the day and a community presentation in the evening. Rachel's Legacy focuses on the impact that Rachel Scott, the first student to die in the Columbine High School tragedy, had on others in the years following her death in 1999.
In addition to the student presentations during the day, there will be a presentation in the evening open to the public. Anyone interested in learning more, is invited to the evening presentation.

Thank you Dickinson ISD board members for helping DISD "Rise to New Heights"
Texans benefit every day from the tireless work and countless hours dedicated by a group of more than 7,300 men and women in communities across the state. These public servants are elected to serve by local constituents and receive no compensation for their efforts. They are the school board members of Texas.
January is School Board Recognition Month and Dickinson ISD would like to say thank you to our local leaders for devoting time to support public education and serve our local schools. Dickinson ISD Board members were honored at the January board meeting with certificates and handmade student cards and posters. The Dickinson ISD Board of Trustees includes:
President Fritzie Samford
Vice President J.T. Floyd
Secretary Patty Halter
Linda L. Butler
Mike Mackey
Jeff Pittman
Rosella Scott
"Our district is enriched by the contributions of these local citizens who truly care about our students. They serve as a crucial link between the community and classroom. This board is responsible for an annual budget of $65 million, 9,700 students, 1,250 employees and 11 campuses. We applaud their efforts to serve as advocated for our children and the voice of public education," said Superintendent Vicki Mims. |

K.E. Little hosts "Pencils for Pupils"
Students from Toms River ISD in New Jersey started the new year with more than 2,000 new pencils, erasers and pencil sharpeners thanks to the "Pencils for Pupils" drive held recently at K.E. Little Elementary. The K.E. Little students all donated the items to help this New Jersey school district, which was affected by Hurricane Sandy this past fall.
Way to go K.E. Little students! |
