Visit the DISD Curriculum Website

There is a great parent resource on the Dickinson ISD website with everything you need to stay informed about the school curriculum at each grade level.

Parents and community members are invited to explore our curriculum documents. There are several different documents on the website to help students and parents check student progress and also look ahead to what students will study later in the year or in future years.

Here is the link directly to the Curriculum area:

Bay Colony students combine music
and art for puppy themed performance

Puppies were everywhere at Bay Colony Elementary recently as the school music and art departments combined efforts for a presentation. The third grade musical, "ARF!," was held in combination with the school art show "Puppies in the Pound."

Bay Colony puppies  Third grade students performed a play in which they were all dressed as dogs and BCES students created dog artwork with crayons, colored pencils and watercolor paints to decorate the school hallways. Students gave their puppies a name and then placed them in cages for the pound. The production was coordinated by music teacher Jacqui Silva and art teacher Kimi White.
Poetry Fridays celebrated
at Barber Middle School

Barber Poetry Fridays Barber Middle School students and teachers are celebrating poetry on Fridays during morning announcements and PRIDE classes. Poetry is a great tool for teaching vocabulary, speaking skills, figurative language, rhythm and meaning in writing.

Librarian Regina Carter received a mini-grant from Sylvia Vardell, Janet Wong and Pomelo Books to be a Poetry Friday Ambassador. Included in the mini-grant was the book, "The Poetry Friday Anthology" by Vardell and Wong, which contains a poem for each Friday of the school year along with activities to go with the poems. PRIDE classes choose a Student Poetry Ambassador each week to come to the library, copy the poem and read it aloud to their class on Fridays. The poem is also highlighted on the morning announcements and extra activities finish the lesson. Teachers and students are encouraged to share other poems as well, which means BMS students will enjoy many great poems this school year.

to raise money for Special Olympics

Christy Perez Christy Perez, the Certified Nurse Assistant at Dickinson High School, recently rappelled down the side of a high-rise building all for a good cause. She accepted the challenge to raise funds to support Special Olympics Texas through the "Over the Edge" Challenge. As part of the fundraising effort, she rappelled down the side of a high-rise building with the help of local law enforcement. She surpassed her goal of $1,000 by raising $1,273 for the Special Olympics organization.

Destiny bowling In addition to being a DISD employee, Christy has seen first hand the difference the Dickinson ISD Special Olympics program makes in the lives of DISD students.
