Chico

We recently received this post on our Facebook page from adopter, Halley Tulicki-Leber about one of our sweet alumni.

"I want to thank the Naperville Humane Society for bringing Chico (formerly Chico Paco Taco adopted in October 2004) into my life.  He was the dog love of my life.  Chico passed away at the end of September 2012.  I miss him more than anything.  If it wasn't for the amazing people of NAHS, I would have not been able to share my life with Chico.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

We are glad we were able to introduce you to Chico, Halley.  We are sorry for your loss!

Happy Tales!

Sparky With Her New Brothers

We love to share happy news about the wonderful pets at NAHS.  Sparky, a 6 -year old pit bull mix, came to NAHS last December.  She was given up by her owner who is a firefighter and his schedule keeps him from home for long periods of time.  He was very sad to say goodbye, but truly wanted her to have a family that had more time to play and give her the love she craved.

Finding Sparky a new home was going to be a little bit of a challenge because she was diagnosed with a couple of chronic health issues.  She has a pancreatic insufficiency that is managed with medicine sprinkled on her food, which will need to continue daily for the rest of her life.  She also has bacteria in her intestines that will clear up through on-going treatment.  In addition to her health issues, Sparky was desperately missing her owner and she became depressed.

A month after arriving, she was adopted, only to discover that she was unable to live in a home with cats, so she was returned.  Volunteers and staff sat with her for hours at a time to cheer her up.  Finally, earlier this month, the Wilson family arrived at the shelter and spotted her.  After spending time with Sparky, they fell in love.  They went home to discuss it as a family, and decided to finalize the adoption.  Sparky now has a wonderful family, including two human brothers.  Enjoy your forever home, Sparky!

Honor or Memorialize Your Pet
with a Brick Paver

Our Pavers for Pets is an opportunity for you to leave a lasting imprint of your support for NAHS.   Purchase a paving brick to be engraved with your name, a pet's name, a friend or family member, or a club or organization.

The pavers are located on the west side of the shelter between the front and side doors.  It was originally installed last May as an Eagle Scout project.  Each spring, Zach Cosenza, the Eagle Scout who planned the project, has agreed to install new engraved bricks.

You can choose a 4" X 8" brick for $100 or a 8" X 8" brick for $200.  For 2013, we are accepting orders until May 31, 2013.  To fill out the order form, click here.
