Brice

Brice was adopted from NAHS in March 2009.

We recently received an update on Brice from his new owner.  He shared that Brice adapted very well to living with him. He still really enjoys playing fetch with whatever toy you will throw for him. He loves to make himself at home wherever he goes as you can see in the photo.

Congratulations Brice on finding a fabulous forever home with the

Fluck family!

The
Virtual
Adopt-a-thon
is here!  Our human supporters put themselves up for adoption in our "virtual shelter" to raise much needed funds for our shelter pets.

We've got some handsome hounds and courageous cats online looking for people to make a donation in his or her name. There is a wide variety of donations like a comfy bed for $75, basic training for $100, spaying or neutering for $150, an adoption for $250.  Check out their profiles and choose the one you like best!

We are half way to our goal.  Please consider making a donation to one of our adoptees today and help provide care for the homeless cats and dogs at NAHS!
Run to Support Homeless Pets

The Human Race logo

Join the NAHS Team at the 2nd Annual Human Race on Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m.  This year the race will be located at the Esplanade at Locust Point in Downers Grove.

It is a 5K for runners or a 2 mile fitness walk for walkers.  Dogs are welcome on the walking route!  You can sign up to support NAHS and help us raise funds for our shelter.  Last year we raised over $7,000 and this year we hope to hit $10,000.  And we can do it with your help!  All funds will go to renovations at the shelter that will make it easier to provide high-quality care for our animals.

Registration is now open and the entry fee is $30 for walkers and $35 for runners if you register online by April 23, 2013. To register, click here!  Offline registration is $5 higher per category and event day registration is $10 higher per category.  So sign up now and make sure to indicate you are supporting NAHS!

If you can't participate, but want to support Team NAHS, visit our fundraising page and donate today! For more information on the Human Race, click here

Professional, Animal Loving Volunteers Needed

We are seeking highly committed individuals to serve on committees for 2013. With a small but highly engaged staff, NAHS relies on a large number of volunteers to help achieve its life-saving mission of sheltering homeless pets and educating the community.

Finding volunteers to work at the shelter caring for the cats and dogs is generally not an issue. However, finding people who are willing to help secure the resources necessary to provide the high-quality programs and services offered by NAHS can be challenging.

NAHS hosts a golf outing and gala annually to raise funds critical for operations. The success of the events requires volunteers willing to help secure auction donations, sponsorships and ticket sales. The committees generally meet once a month initially, and then may meet more often as the event day nears. Individuals interested in joining either the golf and/or gala committee should contact Angie Wood, executive director, at (630) 420-8989 x111 or via email.

Adult Seminar Series

We invite you to the next seminar on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 to learn more about Animal Reiki.

Join Colleen Murphy, Animal Reiki Master, to learn about this ancient Japanese healing technique.  Reiki means Universal Life Energy, an energy that animates, connects and surrounds all things.  Animals instinctively know what healing energy is and can benefit from this gentle, painless and stress free treatment.  We will also learn about animal communication with our current pets and those that have crossed over to the other side.  Q&A will follow presentation.

The seminar will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter (1620 W. Diehl Road, Naperville).  Our adult education seminars are free, however donations are gladly accepted. Space is limited, so register today. Contact Terri Hancock, humane education manager, at (630) 420-8989  x117 or via email to reserve your spot. Seminars are educational only, please leave your pets at home.
