WOMEN'S GOLF DAY AT LANGARA GOLF COURSE

WHAT IS WOMEN'S GOLF DAY?

The inaugural International Women's Golf Day (WGD) will be celebrated around the world on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

Originating in the USA, Women's Golf Day is a one-day, four-hour event for females to engage in the sport and is an opportunity for any girl or woman to try golf for the first - or 50th - time in a fun, non-intimidating environment. Women's Golf Day was started by a dedicated group of golf industry veterans volunteering their expertise and working together to deliver a similar introductory golf experience to women and girls around the world.

Women's Golf Day is being hosted at golf courses and retail locations all around the world on the same day June 7th, 2016 from 4-8pm in each regions local time.

Langara Golf Course will be the host of our Vancouver Parks Golf Women's Golf Day programming on June 7th.

RECIPES FROM CHEF MARK

Spring Pea & Mint Soup

This soup is the essence of spring; its bright green colour will welcome freshness to your dinner table. To make it a bit fancy, place a small amount of crme fraiche in the middle and sprinkle with fresh cut chives.

Ingredients:
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 small onion, small dice
  • 5 cups frozen peas
  • 3.5-4 cups chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup packed fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup crme fraiche
  • 3 tbsp. finely chopped fresh chives
Preparation:

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; cook onion, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in peas, broth, 2 cups water, salt and pepper; bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer until peas are soft, about 10 minutes. Stir in mint.

Puree soup in a blender in small batches until the soup is smooth. Can be served warm...but eat right away or you will lose that vibrant green or enjoy chilled.
