READER COMMENT  |  Gift of Language
Dear Marietta,

You have an such extra keen awareness and depth to enjoy the everyday miracles and you are gifted through language to convey what you behold in the eye of your heart - and thus, we too see. Because you stand humbly in awe of it all you can then share your vision, a worded painting, for our own reflection on the miracle of Being.

Take care and thank you,
Jack McClenahan
BLOGS | From The Philosopher's Desk
Tis true that I'm easily awed. Upon reflection it seems that I reserved my amazement for what I thought of as the "natural world": Hummingbird wings flapping, dolphins gamboling, the Grand Canyon opening, a redwood stretching. Now I experience awe in the very near presence of a part of the natural world that I will never again take for granted. Praise the majesty of the human body. The post Ode to the Human Body appeared first on Marietta McCarty. ...»

"It's a shame you're missing this beautiful Spring," not a few friends remarked, witnesses to my broken arm suffered at the beginning of April. Actually, I've never, ever been as much a part of this time of re-greening-present to each new color and scent, homebound yet traveling in nature's unfolding. What I remember best, and hopefully always, was gradually becoming a part of the world of birds. I healed to their tune, absorbed in their ways. ...»

Marietta enjoyed well-spent hours with a class which assembled in January and graduated in May. Together, they dug deep into the "10 Ideas That Matter Most" from How Philosophy Can Save Your Life. She also hosted three workshops at Hospice of the Piedmont. These "Renew and Review Days" were offered to chaplains, bereavement counselors and social workers. Relaxed and heartfelt conversations centered around single tasking, listening, simple pleasures, and gratitude.

And did we mention The Philosopher's Table dinner parties?!

NEW | Book Websites Merged into One Masterpiece

Marietta worked with Cameron Krest this summer to merge four websites - one for each book and her blog site - into one comprehensive website. Readers may now find upcoming events, reader comments, media coverage ... everything in one place.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR | Meet Marietta McCarty

Marietta McCarty is the author of bestseller
Little Big Minds: Sharing Philosophy with Kids, Nautilus Award winner
How Philosophy Can Save Your Life: 10 Ideas That Matter Most, and
The Philosopher's Table: How to Start Your Philosophy Dinner Club-Monthly Conversation, Music, and Recipes.

Marietta enjoyed lively philosophy circles among her college students at Piedmont Virginia Community College for twenty-eight years before setting off on her career as an author. Her books lead her into new circles of fledgling philosophers of all ages-on playgrounds, in dining rooms, through back doors into kitchens, through front doors into libraries and restaurants, at business meetings and after-work parties.
