National Wear Red Day® - Friday, February 5, 2016

Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. Fortunately, we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. Wear red on National Wear Red Day®  Friday, Febuary 5, 2016, encourage others to do the same and schedule a Well-Woman Visit, a prevention check-up to review a woman's overall health so her doctor can measure blood pressure, check cholesterol and look for signs of heart disease, stroke and other illnesses.

Don't forget to Send a photo of your employees wearing red to be featured in our next newsletter, and be sure to post on our Facebook page!
Change Your Salty Ways in 21 Days
Close up of nutrition facts on the clipboard.
One way to reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke is by eating less salt-filled foods that are preserved, processed or fried. Change Your Salty Ways in 21 Days is an American Heart Association initiative that gives relevant and realistic tips for buying foods that have more moderate sodium levels. Guidance on bread, cured meats, pizza, poultry, sandwiches and soups is included to help consumers shop and dine more informed. Share this 3-week campaign with your colleagues to spread the word about these "Salty Six" and promote heart health all month long!

Ad Council Launches Prediabetes Campaign
Getting fit and being healthier are at the top of everyone's New Year's resolutions. But, despite the best intentions, work, kids, and social events often push lifestyle changes to the bottom of the list. While many are familiar with type 2 diabetes, fewer are aware of prediabetes, a serious health condition that affects 86 million Americans (more than 1 in 3) and often leads to type 2 diabetes. People with prediabetes have higher than normal blood glucose (sugar) levels, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
