HEALTHIEST MARYLAND BUSINESSES
Mid/Upper Eastern Shore Region

February is Heart Month
stethoscope in shape of heart, isolated on white Heart Disease is the #1 killer of men and women in the U.S. Working Marylanders spend an average of 9.2 hours per day at work leading to a decrease in the amount of time available for exercise and healthy eating. In part, this has led to an increase in the burden of heart disease, much of which is preventable.

Employers can engage in motivating and encouraging employees to adopt healthy heart habits! Consider these ideas:
  • Implement a healthy meeting policy
  • Create a smoke free work environment with signage and offer smoking cessation classes to employees
  • Encourage employees to take the stairs
  • Create a department wide employee wellness challenge
  • Install short movement breaks (15 minutes) into your employees workday
