Release:
FISH CREEK, WI - In only six weeks, the hunt for the wily whitetail is on. Northern Sky Theater is bringing back the hit musical comedy that promises "more bang for the buck."
Guys & Does, by Frederick Heide, Lee Becker and Paul Libman, broke box office records and earned rave reviews during its premiere run with 54-straight sold out performances. A favorite with hunters and non-hunters alike, this show drew even larger audiences when it moved to the Door Community Auditorium for its second season and then had a successful statewide tour.
The story follows Fritz Dingleheimer as he heads Up Nort' for that much-needed break in his routine. Numbed by his dull job at the Nekoosa paper mill, this "Wizard of Whitetails" can't wait to drink in the peace and quiet and beer found in the northern pines. His only companion is local oddball Duane Puddles. A non-hunter whose primary skills seem to be talking and knitting, Duane wants to marry Fritz's daughter and hopes to gain his blessing on this trip.
Things heat up when a swaggering Texas big-game hunter arrives at their north woods retreat. Doug Mancheski, a longtime Northern Sky favorite, plays both this hunter and another surprise role.
Warren Gerds of the Green Bay Press-Gazette called Guys & Does "knee-slap funny" and awarded it four out of four stars. The Door County Advocate wrote that it's one of Northern Sky's "most constantly funny and entertaining shows."
Guys & Does contains all the elements of a trademark Northern Sky comedy - hilarity as well as healthy dose of heart. But Becker and Heide are quick to say there is a larger universal theme at play.
"It's about our connection to nature. True hunters are often conservationists," Heide says.
Becker adds, "Hunting is actually more ecological than most people realize, and part of our research for the show was interviewing serious hunters who respect and study nature."
The show also touches on the theme of ethical hunting. Becker says, "part of the show traces back to a story in Navajo culture, in which the animals agreed to give themselves up if hunters remained ethical."
Guys & Does features a Packer-Friendly schedule and plays weekdays at 7:30PM and Saturdays at 4:00PM & 8:00PM. This year the original cast returns featuring Frederick 'Doc' Heide, Lee Becker, and Doug Mancheski.
Guys & Does runs from September 2nd - October 15th at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek, WI. Reserved tickets are $29 for adults, $18 for students, and $14 for children 12 and under.
Tickets for the fall are on sale now at the Northern Sky box office at the Green Gables shops in north Ephraim, via phone at (920) 854-6117 and online at www.NorthernSkyTheater.com. Office hours are 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 3pm Saturday.
Northern Sky Theater is a non-profit professional theater organization that produces original musical shows in repertory from June through August at the amphitheater in Peninsula State Park. Northern Sky continues its performances into the fall with shows at the Door Community Auditorium and town halls September through October and over the Christmas holiday.
