FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 15, 2016 Contact: Ann Birnschein, Marketing Director (920) 854-6117 x104 ann@northernskytheater.com Northern Sky Theater to Distribute Free Tickets to All Door County Students Northern Sky Theater will once again invite all Door County students to a complimentary evening of entertainment under the stars. Northern Sky will distribute nearly 4,000 free tickets to every elementary, middle and high school student at all five Door County schools as well as area homeschooling students. " This year, the complimentary ticket provides three opportunities to take advantage of this special offer," stated Marketing Director, Ann Birnschein. "This is meant to be a 'Summer Fun Reward' for area students - awarded for their hard work in school this past year." The ticket includes an opportunity to see three of the company's summer shows at Peninsula State Park. This year's world premiere, Doctor! Doctor!, in which a retiring small town physician recruits his young big city nephew to take over his practice, pays tribute to the nostalgic nature of life in Door County.
Writer and composer, Matt Zembrowski, first started attending shows at Northern Sky when he was just 12 years old. Since then, he's dreamt of seeing a musical that he wrote produced on the outdoor stage at Peninsula State Park. "You might say this musical has been 20 years in the making," joked Artistic Director, Jeffrey Herbst. "Now, at age 32, Matt's written a charming new show that we think Door County students will really enjoy."
Returning for a consecutive season this summer are When Butter Churns to Gold, described as a "madcap musical with plenty of audience interaction", and No Bones About It, the story of Romeo and Juliet told in a way you never would have imagined, set in the competitive barbecue world.
"When you add up the three shows, on average, that's nearly $100,000 in ticket value being offered to the youth of our community," stated Northern Sky Board Chair, Mary Seeberg. "That's quite the investment, but it's in keeping with Northern Sky's mission to foster a love of theater at a young age." Tickets will be distributed the week of May 23rd and should be in the student's hands by summer vacation. Parents are encouraged to check their school office in the event they do not receive a ticket.
Doctor! Doctor! opens June 15th and plays Mondays at 6pm, Wednesdays at 8pm, and Fridays at 8pm.
No Bones About It opens June 20th and plays Mondays at 8:30pm and Thursdays at 8:30pm through August 25th. When Butter Churns to Gold opens June 21st and plays one night only on Tuesdays at 8pm through August 23rd. Students will need to present their complimentary tickets at the outdoor amphitheater in Peninsula State Park. All performances are suitable for all ages.
