Northern Sky Theater announces new and improved Creative Kids Day for 2015

For more than a decade now, Northern Sky Theater has offered a day of creativity dedicated to children and teens interested in learning more about what it means to be part of a professional musical theater troupe in Door County.

Over the years, hundreds of youth have taken advantage of the opportunity to look behind the scenes, play theater games on the amphitheater stage, join in on cast sing-a-longs, and sneak a rare peak inside the Northern Sky dressing rooms.

This year, in partnership with Write On Door County and led by veteran company member and Associate Artistic Director Molly Rhode, participants will gain the additional experience of taking part in an interactive writing experience with the end result of performing a short play for their family and friends.

"Molly brings a wealth of experience from her background with Milwaukee's First Stage Theatre Academy where she spent several years in Theatre Education," stated Holly Feldman, Director of Development and Public Relations. "We're thrilled to be able to use her expertise and our partnership with Write On to instill in our young fans, a deeper understanding of Northern Sky's unique mission of writing and developing new shows."

"Our world premiere, When Butter Churns to Gold, gives us the perfect opportunity to work with kids on writing their very own melodrama," stated Rhode. "We'll brainstorm a storyline, learn about 'stock' characters, add some music, and basically take their ideas and run with them. Nine heroes, eight heroines, and no villains? No problem."

Children and teens ages 6 to 16 will have the option of choosing one of two sessions taking place on Friday, July 17th: 9:30 AM until Noon or 1:00 until 3:30 PM. Each session is limited to 30 participants. Admission to the event is $25 or a maximum of $60 for 3 siblings or more. A state park sticker is required to attend this event. Each participant also receives a t-shirt that they can have signed by the cast and crew.

Northern Sky Theater is a non-profit professional theatre organization that produces original musical shows in repertory from June through August. Northern Sky continues its performances into the fall as they move indoors September through October.
