Release:

American Folklore Theatre's Guys On Ice, by Fred Alley and James Kaplan, premiered in Door County in 1998 and has since earned the title "Wisconsin's Most Beloved Musical". The story follows the exploits of two ice fishermen, Marvin and Lloyd, as they spend a day out on the ice. The show has played to sold-out houses throughout Wisconsin as well as thousands more from Oregon to Massachusetts with Iowa and Minnesota in between.

This summer, Door County's American Folklore Theatre will partner with Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) for a taping of a special production of Guys On Ice at their outdoor amphitheater in Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek, Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Public Television will record the production over two nights, Sunday, August 3rd, and Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 for broadcast in March 2015. Joining Doug Mancheski as Marvin for this televised performance will be Steve Koehler as Lloyd and Lee Becker as Ernie the Moocher.

Limited reserved seats are available to be in the audience for the taping. Tickets are $27 for adults and $13 for children and teens. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Fred Alley New Musical Fund to help bring AFT's brand of world premiere musicals to their stage each summer.

"This really is a win-win for both organizations. AFT has been in discussions with Wisconsin Public Television for some time now about how we might utilize their network to highlight the experience of being at an AFT performance and share that experience with their viewers," stated Holly Feldman, Director of Development and Public Relations.

"WPT is pleased to partner with American Folklore Theatre to record and broadcast Guys on Ice to the state," WPT Director of Production Kathy Bissen said.  "A cornerstone of our mission is to share the stories of Wisconsin and the talents of its people with viewers in communities across the state. The traditions of this theater company and this play, in particular, are a perfect way to continue this work. We're excited to take viewers inside one of the most unique venues around for a wonderful performance."

In 2009, Wisconsin Public Television unveiled their new mobile production truck, which expanded the statewide network's ability to share the best of all of Wisconsin's communities. Since that time AFT and WPT have had several meetings in person and by phone.

"We've been working with our writers, performers, designers and crew to iron out rights and contracts. We've had some very generous donors who have agreed to help us fund this extraordinary opportunity. It seems that that canopy of stars above our stage have finally aligned to make this all possible," stated Dave Maier, AFT Managing Director. "We are thrilled that WPT has chosen a play so well loved by our audiences in Door County. Now audiences throughout the state will be able to enjoy this rollicking musical comedy that has been an emblematic and iconic production for AFT since its premiere."
