Cheeseheads, the Musical reaches milestone performance

As its 22nd season performing under the stars at Peninsula State Park comes to a close, American Folklore Theatre (AFT) will shift the momentum from a strong end to their Summer Season to the opening of their Fall Season of Cheeseheads, the Musical at the Door Community Auditorium.

Cheeseheads, by Dave Hudson and Paul Libman, will be making its fall debut on the Door Community Auditorium stage after entertaining thousands in three seasons on AFT's summer stage in Peninsula State Park.

"When Cheeseheads premiered in 2009, we literally had people leaping from their seats en masse to state out loud and proud, 'I'm a Cheesehead.' It truly is a testament to a show's impact when we decide to bring it back for a third season and then feature it as our fall show," stated Jeff Herbst, Artistic Director.

Cheeseheads is billed as a touching and joyful modern day "dairy" tale. The story revolves around the lives of fellow workers at Schnaybel's Famous Cheese, a family-owned factory. Their beloved founder has passed away and there are rumors the factory may shut down.  With typical Wisconsin good humor, the workers carry on while keeping their fingers crossed that something better will come their way.

Many of the original cast members will reprise their roles with this production including Doug Mancheski, Molly Rhode, Chase Stoeger, and Pamela Niespodziani. Joining them will be Dan Klarer from this summer's production and newcomer Tom Conry.

Additionally, well-known Milwaukee actor, Noman Moses, will be making his American Folklore Theatre debut playing the role of Doc. Milwaukee audiences will recognize him as a regular company member with The Skylight Opera Theatre. Moses was most recently seen as Coach in Packer Fans From Outer Space at the Marcus Center. He has been performing in the Milwaukee area for close to 40 years.

"Historically, we have found that our fall audiences do not have the opportunity to see our summer season at Peninsula State Park. We are excited for this show to reach a fresh audience with this extended run at the Door Community Auditorium," said Dave Maier, Managing Director.

Even more exciting is that the show will reach a milestone of 100 performances with the 4:00 PM show on Saturday, September 15th. A celebration complete with cheesecake and cheese curds is in the works.

True to the play's theme of celebrating all things Wisconsin, Cheeseheads, the Musical features a performance schedule that is Packer Game Friendly. The show opens Thursday, August 30th and runs through October 14th. The complete schedule can be viewed at www.FolkloreTheatre.com or by calling the box office at 920-854-6117. Tickets are $27.00 for adults and $13 for children 12 and under.

Tickets are on sale now in the AFT box office at the Green Gables shops in north Ephraim, via phone at (920) 854-6117, and online at www.FolkloreTheatre.com
