What I wish someone had told me when I graduated from college

Help Gaylord help you: Report your job or internship

As you know, post-graduation information and internship information is important to the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication and your fellow students. To become more efficient in gathering and reporting this information, Career Services has partnered with a new database system called SOON (Students Online Outcome Network.)

How does this pertain to you? SOON will be replacing the "Report a Job or Internship" survey found on HIREsooner.com. You will still be able to access the survey through "Report a Job or Internship," but it will take you to the new SOON platform. Report any upcoming full time or internship offers you have accepted.

Career ServicesIf you have accepted a full time position or an internship and have not reported it to Career Services, please take a couple minutes to fill out our survey through this link. Letting Career Services know that you have accepted a job/internship takes you out of the online resume books so that employers are only reaching out to students who have not yet received an offer.

As always, your data is held in strict confidence and is safe in the SOON database.
Thank you for your time and let me know if I can answer any questions!

Warrior Magazine seeks writers
WriteWarrior
Warrior Magazine is a startup news-based website that will be launched later this month. Following the Buzzfeed model of a website based, young-audience focused news platform, Warrior Magazine is a social justice and art-focused online magazine that will ideally be posting articles each day dedicated not to the sports games and parties that the newspapers so often focus on and that the media believes are the only things College kids care about, but on the real-world, important issues that we believe many students still care about today. From social justice related panels (such as the #BlackLivesMatter panel held at my own school, The University of San Francisco, last month), to LGBTQIA communities, to struggling literary journals, poetry readings, and other art platforms, Warrior Magazine will be supporting and promoting important, community-changing stories each day. Good things are happening on college campuses every day on every campus in this country, but these are not always the stories we hear. Joining the Warrior Team means telling stories that matter, and telling them on each student's individual schedule.

Warrior Magazine is a promised low stress job that will look great on any resume; to be a writer on the Warrior Team, the commitment is only one article a week (the student can pick their own due date!) of only 500 words minimum, and the students pick the topics! This is a great opportunity for students to build their writing portfolios and to feel that they are making a tangible, meaningful difference in their community. It is our hope here at Warrior Magazine to reach as many students as possible from all over the country.

Any student interested may email us at warriormagazinecontact@gmail.com to discuss the position further.
