PRSSA's #PlankForPlank campaign wins Betsy Day competition
|
The OU chapter of the Professional Relations Student Society of America won the April 2, Betsy Day competition with their #plankforplank campaign. Betsy Day was established by the Plank Center at the University of Alabama in 2014 to honor Betsy Plank, considered the "First Lady" of PR. The competition requires chapters to promote #BetsyDay on their campuses in a creative way. The chapter with the most innovative campaign wins the grand prize "Betsy Bundle," which consists of Skype sessions with a Plank Center board member, a year-long subscription to PRWeek, a six month online subscription to PRWeek for each member, a Chapter recommendation from the Plank Center, and the title of Betsy Day 2015 Champions. |
| Adviser Robert "Pritch" Pritchard planks for the #PlankForPlank campaign
|
The Gaylord chapter took pictures of one another "planking" at different locations around campus, and uploaded them to Twitter using the campaign hashtag to encourage non-PR students to participate. Photos using the hashtag then competed for best plank photo. #PlankForPlank won over campaigns from across the country that had similar goals. California State Polytechnic University, which won runner up, ran a social media campaign focusing on women in public relations, showcasing inspirational quotes. Waynesburg University followed suit, using Betsy Plank quotes to write notes to the next group of PRSSA students. The level of creativity and engagement the #PlankForPlank campaign required to succeed, as well as its uniqueness when compared to other schools in the competition, seems to make this campaign a stand out among the others. Congratulations to our PRSSA chapter and their adviser, Bob Pritchard.

This class focuses on issues like what the financial prospects are in each area, what the customary business practices are, whether to start publishing books traditionally or digitally, how to get entry into the biz, what agents, editors, and producers actually do, what's in contracts and what to watch out for in them, how book production works (movie production is too complicated to get into), how to do social marketing, and more.
Not a course on how to write but a course on how to become an established pro.
There will be reading to do in advance and a booklet to write after class. |
