Upcoming events at the Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth
|
CCEW interns work at a crossroad of innovation, entrepreneurship, and invention. The Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth hosts high-impact community programming, spearheads collaborative spaces like OU's Innovation Hub, and offers experiential learning opportunities to students, faculty, and professionals with the mission of promoting the people, businesses, and ideas of Oklahoma. There are two upcoming ways to join CCEW in making an impact:
Attend CCEW's Open House at 6 p.m. March 11 to find out more about the CCEW internship tracks for all majors: interdisciplinary analysts, product designers, software developers, graphic designers and consulting associates. Interns get a hands-on experience in solving high-impact challenges in social entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, software business acceleration, entrepreneurial consulting and agile product design. RSVP for the upcoming open house here.
Participate in OU's Startup Weekend running from Feb 27 through March 1 to join a 54-hour blitz on sharing ideas, building products and launching startups. OU's Startup Weekend will uniquely feature a maker space powered by OU's Innovation Hub, and participants will have the opportunity to use 3D printing and other tools to make their ideas a reality. Sign up here.
For more information about either of these events, contact the CCEW Fellows at ccew@ou.edu.
Follow CCEW on social media for more updates on events we're hosting, frequently asked questions, and highlights from current CCEW Interns.

Sooner Yearbook garners Gold Circle honors from Columbia Scholastic Press Association
|
Sooner yearbook's most recent edition, Impact, chronicling the 2013-14 academic year, has won 14 Gold Circle honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Racey Burden edited the book with advising support from Heather Howard.

1st place Writing - Racey Burden, sports reporting ("Highest" story) Design - Adrianna Doyal, table of contents Design - Adrianna Doyal/Kelly Powers, photo illustration (single image; Pe-et spread) Design - Adrianna Doyal, opening/closing spreads Design - Adrianna Doyal, sports multipage presentation (Lowest of lows to highest of highs spread) 2nd place Copy editing - Brittany Belli/Adam Curry/Kelly Powers, headline writing Photography - Racey Burden/Kelly Powers, caption writing Design - Racey Burden/Sean Cummings/Adrianna Doyal, end sheets Photography - Sean Cummings, academic photo (academics divider picture) Photography - Sean Cummings, photo portfolio 3rd place Design - Adrianna Doyal, index Design - Adrianna Doyal, academic spread (We have it all spread) Certificate of Merit Writing - Brittany Belli, student life feature (Ground Zero story) Design - Mason Cullen, sports spread (Grand Slam spread) Of particular note, Sean's photo portfolio honor is only the third time Sooner has earned that distinction according to our records. The other two were by Ryan Phillips (1st in 2012-13; certificate of merit in 2011-12). Also, Adri's seven individual honors this year were the most by a designer since Michael Mitra's eight in the 2008-09 book. Our design record appears to be nine, shared by Jessica Bradley in 2001-02 and Bill Brookshire, who did it twice (1996-97, 1997-98). In addition, we've previously learned Sooner's Impact edition is a Gold Crown and Pacemaker finalist. The winners in those are announced later this spring.
