A Reason to Live: Survival, Compassion, and the Miracle of Life
|
|
Tomorrow evening, Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m., the OU community will come together
at McCasland Field House for an event titled, "A Reason To Live: Survival,Compassion, and the Miracle of Life."
Join in the conversation with Kevin Hines, who attempted suicide at 19, and Kevin Briggs, the "Guardian of the Gold Gate Bridge," to foster suicide awareness.
The event is sponsored by OU's B.I.T. Group, OUPD, OU Athletics, The Oklahoma Daily and The Jill Campaign.
The Jill Campaign's namesake is former OU Gaylord College student Jill Cohen. Jill took her life on March 17, 2007, (St. Patrick's Day) at the age of 20. Jill's big laugh and contagious smile did not match what was going on with her on the inside.
She is not the first student, or the last, to mask her feelings in public, only to succumb to the darkness in private. If you see yourself, a friend or a classmate in Jill's story, resources are available:

If Goddard is not the right place,, another OU-affiliated clinic, The OU Counseling Psychology Clinic, works on a sliding scale, so cost does not get in the way of treatment. Appointments can be made by calling 405-325-2914.
If nothing else, if you or someone you know is in crisis, please call 911. There are people out there who want to help. Let them.
