A couple of weeks ago, our faculty research liaison, Katerina Tsetsura, organized a meeting between the leadership of our college and representatives from the Vice President for Research's office, including Kelvin Droegemeier. The VPR's office has been very helpful to our college in the past and seems even more enthusiastic about working with us this year. I wanted to share a couple of ideas that came from the meeting:
- Kelvin and Alicia Knoedler told us that they would be in a much stronger position to help Gaylord faculty if they had an updated roster of individual and group research interests. David will be asking the Faculty Development and Research & Creative Activity Grants Awards Committee to assemble a list that the VPR can circulate to those around campus seeking partnerships.
- The VPR wanted to remind Gaylord faculty that their office operates an internal grant program to support innovative research. They hope that there will be applicants from our college. Katerina has details. The Faculty Development and Research & Creative Activity Grants Awards Committee can aid that effort by targeting Gaylord faculty enrichment grant research money to those who have the best chance of winning one of these awards.
- Helping graduate students to organize a collective research project each year was another idea. Several graduate programs already use this model to help focus attention on bigger projects that can benefit several graduate students and faculty.
This is only a sampling of the opportunities to help faculty and graduate students in our college. Katerina will be in touch throughout the academic year with additional ideas. Alicia Knoedler (5-9433, aknoedler@ou.edu) "is waiting for your call." Let's take full advantage of the services they offer.
