OU SPJ Elects New Officers
|

Journalism senior Molly Evans will be president of the OU Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in the fall 2014 semester.
Evans was elected Monday, April 28, at the chapter's last spring meeting. Other officers for fall will be journalism senior Arianna Pickard, vice president; film and media studies senior Tony Beaulieu, secretary; journalism senior Joey Stipek, treasurer, and journalism senior Daniel Soto, Unity liaison.

Writing for Mass Media class crowns AP Stylebook Jeopardy champs
|

Fast on the buzzer and accurate on their answers, the Lab 14 AP Stylebook Jeopardy champions clawed their way to victory in the lecture semifinals and final round on Tuesday, April 29.
Ably coached by dean of lab instructors Kent Graham, the Spring 2014 Grand Champions are Jessie Blackwell, Elizabeth McCready, Olivia Taylor and Mitchell Winkler.
The teams that won their semi-final rounds and also competed in the final included Kayleigh Adam, Kyndall King, Amanda Deng, Julia Bauer and Breanna Bober from Leslie Cermak's Lab 12 and Maricela Avila, Hanna Jacobs, Jessica Dillard and Jennifer Phillips from Carol Cole-Frowe's Lab 18.
Most U.S. print publications follow Associated Press style for consistency, and mastery of its most essential elements is one of the goals for students in JMC 2033 Writing for Mass Media.

International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center Position
The Communications Department is seeking candidates for a one-year, paid consultancy to help with writing, editing, social media, marketing and public relations. Located outside Mexico City, CIMMYT is a non-profit, international agricultural research-for-development organization that develops and promotes improved maize and wheat varieties and cropping systems for farmers in developing countries. CIMMYT offers junior consultants a monthly stipend ($1,200; paid in US dollars), housing allowance and an airline ticket to and from Mexico. Chronicling America's Wars: JMC 4970/5970 Section 900
 This new dream course pairs two of the college's award-winning professors - Pulitzer Prize winner John Schmeltzer and Emmy award winner Mike Boettcher. Just as technological changes have transformed warfare, technology has changed how correspondents cover those conflicts. This course will provide a tour of America's wars with the assistance of speakers such as one of first POW female war correspondents, to Dan Rather who brought the Vietnam War home to America's living rooms and New York Times photographer Tyler Hicks, who helped carry the body of Oklahoma City native Anthony Shadid out of Syria.
