cOklahoma Broadcast Education Association Student Awards

Dean Joe Foote, KGOU-FM General Manager Karen Holp and OU Nightly News Director Bob Dickey were joined by seven students at the Oklahoma City Skirvin Hilton Hotel for the annual Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Student Awards on Thursday March 27.  The students accepted 23 OBEA awards on behalf of themselves and their peers for 2013 work.  Gaylord College and KGOU-FM students earned ten 1st Places, eight 2nd Places and five 3rd Places.  The 23 awards were the most of any school in the state. Gaylord College juniors Allison Smith and Sydney Stavinoha were also recognized for earning Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Scholarships for the 2014-2015 year.  Gaylord faculty member Ken Fischer was also in attendance.  At the luncheon, the out-going OBEA President announced that Fischer will be the President of OBEA for 2014-2015.

dSPJ Oklahoma Pro Chapter 2013 Journalism Contest Results

In this contest, student work competed against work in Oklahoma's professional newspapers. Certificates and plaques will be presented at an awards dinner Saturday, April 26, at the Reed Center in Midwest City.

The Summer in Washington, D.C., Program immerses Gaylord College students into the culture of government and politics in the Nation's capitol. Students are exposed to campaign, governance and interest group politics through periodic gatherings, featuring political practitioners and national political journalists. oContest for Strategic Communication Majors 

M&C Saatchi in Kuala Lumpur is having a contest among our strategic communication majors for a three month internship. 

The contest question will be on national branding.  Students will write about which country's branding they admire and why, and what campaign do they think helped change or shape perception for a country.  Reports are due to Jim Avery, no later than April 14.  

 

"If you want to be creative, lean in to your work, and find an adventure, apply for the M&C Saatchi KL internship. It's three months, accommodations are covered, and work opportunities are unlimited," said Jackie Fulkerson, last year's internship winner and current M&C Saatchi/KL full-time employee.

rNew Dream Course for Fall 2014

 Chronicling America's Wars

Some of world's most celebrated war correspondents will be coming to the University of Oklahoma in Fall 2014. The Gaylord College will be offering a new dream course pairing two of the college's award-winning professors - Pulitzer Prize winner John Schmeltzer and Emmy award winner Mike Boettcher. Just as technological changes have transformed warfare, technology has changed how correspondents cover those conflicts. This course will provide a tour of America's wars with the assistance of speakers such as one of first POW female war correspondents, to Dan Rather who brought the Vietnam War home to America's living rooms and New York Times photographer Tyler Hicks, who helped carry the body of Oklahoma City native Anthony Shadid out of Syria.
