aCongratulations Students Recognized by BEA & OBEA!
The results are in from two of the biggest award competitions Gaylord students entered, and it was a great year for them!

bea

The first awards are from the prestigious national BEA Festival of Media Arts run by the Broadcast Education Association.  As the largest competition for Mass Comm students in the nation, over 1100 pieces were entered with acceptance rates at 20% or less.  OU had the most winners ever this year.  In fact, OU ranked 3rd in the nation for total number of winners. The awards will be given at the national BEA convention/NAB show in Las Vegas April 6-9.

OBEA The Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) runs the largest state wide media competition in the country.  OU captured more than a quarter of all the awards out of 220 entries from 15 schools.  All the entries were judged and ranked by a series of professionals.  The top three place will be awarded at a ceremony Thursday, March 27th at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City.

bPWSA Raises Funds for Lymphoma and Leukemia

Members of PWSA helped raise funds for Lymphoma and Leukemia by participating

in the Glow Run 5K held at Remington Park on

Friday, March 1. Here (left to right) Katie Rott, PWSA President Shelby Edwards, Chris Phelps and Annie DelSignore spell PWSA while

Jocelyn Pedersen's son, Al Miller who also ran, makes an exclamation point. It was chilly, but the group had fun and then warmed themselves with pizza at Sauced in OKC. The group dedicated their run to Richard, a PWSA member's relative with Leukemia.

 Tuesdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Some of world's most celebrated war correspondents will be coming to the University of Oklahoma in Fall 2014. The Gaylord College will be offering a new dream course pairing two of the college's award-winning professors - Pulitzer Prize winner John Schmeltzer and Emmy award winner Mike Boettcher. Just as technological changes have transformed warfare, technology has changed how correspondents cover those conflicts. This course will provide a tour of America's wars with the assistance of speakers such as one of first POW female war correspondents, to Dan Rather who brought the Vietnam War home to America's living rooms and New York Times photographer Tyler Hicks, who helped carry the body of Oklahoma City native Anthony Shadid out of Syria.
