Maintenance week a success!

We'll be opening our doors on schedule Tuesday morning at 10 am and hope that you will soon be visiting. Our annual week long maintenance closure allowed the San Francisco Recreation & Park carpenters, electricians, engineers and painters to complete numerous projects requiring several consecutive days of work.

Many of the projects will be easily noticeable such as the completely
Refinished bench in Potted Plants
refurbished greeter's desk and donation bank in the vestibule. The wood has been carefully refinished and looks wonderful. The teak bench in Potted Plants, an always popular place to spend a few relaxing moments amid the magnificent florals, also received a thorough  refinishing by the paint shop.

Our evening visitors will appreciate the new overhead lighting in the Lowland Tropics Gallery as well as      up-lights in the Potted Plants Gallery installed by the electricians.
New benches, new lights in Potted Plants

New benches were crafted by the carpenters to support the collections in Potted Plants.

Extremely important behind the scenes work by the engineers included servicing of the mechanical vents, so very essential to the health of the plant collections as well as the integrity of the wood structure.

We thank all of you for your patience and understanding during the closure week.

Come see us soon!

What's in Bloom

It's Cymbidium season in the Bay Area and the
Potted Plants Gallery is filled with blooms!

Cymbidiums are noteworthy because although there are approximately only 44 species, thousands of hybrids exist.  Cymbidiums are popular in the florist trade for corsages and floral design. Cut flowers last for weeks. They are widely grown in Bay Area gardens and bloom in the winter.
Native to: lowland forests and temperate zones in S.E. Asia, China, Japan, Indonesia, Australia
