Adult Formation
Half Truths, an Exciting Adult forum beginning July 31
Join the Adult Forum from 9: 30 to 10:15 after breakfast in the Parish hall where we will study Half Truths with Adam Hamilton and Deacon Joanna July 31 through August 28
These are simple phrases. They sound Christian-like something you might find in the Bible. We've all heard these words. Maybe we've said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.
Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus.
The clichés include:
* Everything happens for a reason. July 31
* God helps those who help themselves. August 7
* God won't give you more than you can handle. August 14
* God said it, I believe it, that settles it. August 21
* Love the sinner, hate the sin. August 28
This is an amazing series you will not want to miss.

Homeless Ministry Delivery Report
This past summer, Betty Seymour, Sheryl Stewart, Sheryl's neighbor, Ruby, made deliveries this past summer to Dorcas House and St. Francis House. Blue barrel donations for the homeless ministry were down but we had collected a lot of clothes and toys from other sources and actually ended up delivering quite a bit.
Our delivery team members were struck by how many more clients we encountered at both Dorcas House and St. Francis House. St. Luke's team members were treated to a tour by one of the clients at Dorcas who opened our eyes to several areas which could use donations. We learned that hygiene products for Dorcas are especially needed. There is a hygiene closet where newcomers are able to get basic hygiene items - so many come to the house with literally nothing. The biggest needs in that area are tampons and larger size diapers. They also have a small art room and they are always in need of paints and canvasses.
St. Luke's delivered pill bottles and clothing to St. Francis House. Once again, we encountered many more clients than I had seen there previously and they were especially interested in our clothing donations. The social services side maintains a "store" where folks in the community can "shop" for needed clothing and household goods.
As one of our St. Luke's team members said, "I hope parishioners will continue to give through the summer - the need seems to be growing as donations have slacked off...They need everything!"

Outreach
Stock the Pantry: Donations for the Park Hill Christian Church food pantry may be placed in the brown box in the narthex.
HOMELESS SHELTER MINISTRY: St. Luke's had a good delivery day last Tuesday, May 26, for our homeless shelter ministry! The deliveries were quite a success and St. Luke's really made some people happy with detergent and bottled water! Many thanks to all of you that are helping with this ministry with your donations.
Don and George made the run to River City Ministry and Jericho Way. They split 14 cases of bottled water between the two and Don said they were very grateful for that. There were lots of paper towels and toilet paper for each. We had a bag or two of portable snacks (chicken salad & tuna salad with crackers and Vienna sausages) for RCM as well as a bag of toothbrushes & toothpaste. They also got two tall kitchen bags of pill bottles. For Jericho Way there were several bottles & pods of detergent. Don said they had just run completely out, so they were really excited to get that! They also received paper towels, toiletries and toothbrushes, etc.
M'liss and Betty went to SFH and DH. We had two tall kitchen bags of pill bottles and three cases of water for SFH. Darlene, the Director of St. Francis House, took M'liss on a quick tour of the facility. SFH has a large laundry room for the vets (8 stacked sets) and they also need donations of detergent. For Dorcas House we had two large bottles and some packs of pod detergent, three large 8-12 packs of paper towels, toilet paper, several packs of bath soap, two bags of toiletries & toothbrushes, two overnight size canvas bags, a bag of women's clothing, and a mixed bag of art supplies, notebooks, coloring books, etc. The ladies who helped unload were very appreciative. A little boy helped us carry things in, so I pointed out the bag with markers & other fun things. He seemed more excited about the detergent though!
We will continue to gather items for the homeless shelters for monthly delivery. George and M'liss Collins have joined our delivery team; team members now consist of George & M'liss, Don Woods, Tommie Williams, Betty Seymour, Sheryl Stewart. If you would like to help with deliveries for this ministry, feel free to contact Betty Seymour. BOTTLED WATER and DETERGENT are the most needed items at the present time.
ST. LUKE'S RESPITE Care has opportunities available now for volunteer cooks for the next 12 months. Cooks are needed to prepare the menu, to shop for the groceries needed, and to prepare and deliver a meal for 20 people on a Thursday. You may volunteer to do this on a monthly basis or any other way that fits your schedule (such as, bi-monthly, semi-annually or once a year). Reimbursement is available for your assistance. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer, please contact Tommie Williams at 501.605.2276.
PARK HILL CHRISTIAN FOOD PANTRY NEWS: Volunteers are needed to help sort food, unload food deliveries, and distribute food to area families. You may volunteer in any way that fits your schedule. If you would like to help with PHCC food pantry, contact Jeannie Fry at 501.941.0430 or fryesque@centurytel.net. Also, as a reminder, you may place your donations to the PHCC food pantry any time in the brown box in the narthex.
FAMILY PROMISE volunteers are reminded that we will have a 90 minute training session in the parish hall with the Director of Family Promise, Cynthia Rainey, on Sunday, August 28, after the 10.30 service. This training session opportunity is for all volunteers, both cooking teams and overnight teams. We need to get a head count of those planning to attend in order to have sufficient materials available for the meeting. Please contact Jeannie Fry at fryesque@centurytel.net if you are planning to attend this training session, need more information or are interested in volunteering in any way for this ministry.
