Deacon's Bench

Prayers from Bishop Charleston:
In light of the events in Baton Rouge, another in a string of tragedies tearing the fabric of our nation, I simply invite all of us to reflect deeply on what we can do, individually and corporately, to end the cycles of violence. Here is a short list that may help us focus. We must organize faith communities to be effective voices of reason. We must have a united front for reconciliation. We must support all levels of leadership that are actively working for constructive change. And finally, we must begin to see a national process of healing begin between people of all walks of life. I know it will not be easy. I know there are no quick fixes. But I also know that enough is enough. The sorrow on all sides must cease.

God have mercy on all those who have lost their lives without reason. Lift them up in your strong arms and hold them close. Receive them into a place where there is no more terror or sorrow. Help the injured to recover. Guard them from further pain. Comfort the families with deep compassion. Give them a sense of your presence as they search for a way to bear their grief. And pour your Spirit into this broken world. Let your love run like waters of life into every mind and heart. Show us how to confront what we cannot comprehend and stop the sacrifice of so many innocent lives."

New Church Keys

The outside doors of the church and parish hall have been rekeyed. With this new process, we have switched to electronic code locks to enter the church and parish hall. If you currently have a church key and/or are part of a group that uses the church and parish hall during non-Sunday hours, please either speak to your ministry leader or call Caroline in the church office. Physical keys will only be given out on a temporary basis with the exception to staff, clergy, and vestry. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
Adult Formation

Half Truths, an Exciting Adult forum beginning July 31

Join the Adult Forum from 9: 30 to 10:15 after breakfast in the Parish hall where we will study Half Truths with Adam Hamilton and Deacon Joanna July 31 through August 28

These are simple phrases. They sound Christian-like something you might find in the Bible. We've all heard these words. Maybe we've said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.
Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus.

The clichés include:
* Everything happens for a reason.  July 31
* God helps those who help themselves. August 7
* God won't give you more than you can handle. August 14
* God said it, I believe it, that settles it. August 21
* Love the sinner, hate the sin.  August 28

This is an amazing series you will not want to miss.
