Deacon's Bench
Confirmation and Study Afterwards
On July 24 St. Luke's will present to the bishop at least 8 young people and new members for confirmation. Think back to your own confirmation and remember what an exciting day this will be. Join us on July 24 to support these confirmands who have been meeting for 14 weeks to learn from each of you what it means to live the Episcopal life. Thank you to the many of you who have helped in this class. If there are any who would like to be received and reaffirmed their faith, please let me know as well. This will be an important day in the lives of all of us at St. Luke's. Please join us to meet at 9:30 on July 24 after breakfast to meet with the bishop as he returns to St. Luke's for the first Sunday after his sabbatical in Chicago.

UTO GIVING
The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. UTO is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the monies to support mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion. Be sure to pick up your box or use the envelope provided in the bulletins. The box is available in the Narthex.

From the Organ Bench
Jason Pennington, our organist/choirmaster is away today through next Sunday (the 17th) attending the Sacred Music Conference at Sewanee. Jason was recommended by colleagues and by our rector for a Full Merit Scholarship to this annual conference at the University of the South and was selected from a number of applicants. Jason was also asked, as a scholarship recipient, to play Gabriel Piern's Prlude in G minor for the organ master class during the conference with Tom Trenney. Jason will return to the St. Luke's console for regular liturgical duties on July 24th for the bishop's visit. Please pray for him on his journey and his studies this week at Sewanee.

Adult Formation
Half Truths, an Exciting Adult forum beginning July 31
Join the Adult Forum from 9 to 9:30 after breakfast in the Parish hall where we will study Half Truths with Adam Hamilton and Deacon Joanna
July 31 through August 28
These are simple phrases. They sound Christian-like something you might find in the Bible. We've all heard these words. Maybe we've said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.
Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichs to the message and ministry of Jesus.
The clichs include:
* Everything happens for a reason. July 31
* God helps those who help themselves. August 7
* God won't give you more than you can handle. August 14
* God said it, I believe it, that settles it. August 21
* Love the sinner, hate the sin. August 28
This is an amazing series you will not want to miss.

Outreach
FAMILY PROMISE: This coming week, the week of July 10th, we will be feeding evening meals in our parish hall to three families associated with Family Promise. We are pleased that Park Hill Christian Church will be partnering with St. Luke's in this ministry both during the week of July 10th and in the future with all facets of this ministry. Watch the Evangelist for a "wish list" in the near future for a list of items that can be donated to help with this ministry. If you wish to donate to this ministry in other ways, you can make your check out to St. Luke's with "Family Promise" noted in the memo line, and place it in the offering plate or leave it at the office. Contact Nancy Crow at 501.412.3865 or Jeannie Fry at 501.941.0430 for information and questions. BOTTLED WATER of all sizes and DETERGENT of all kinds may be left in the blue barrel in the narthex. Our St. Luke's delivery team continues to make deliveries on the last Tuesday each month to area homeless shelters. For more information, you may contact Betty Seymour. FOOD PANTRY update: Thanks to so many generous donations of non-perishable foods associated with our VBS, we were able to donate large bundles of food to the following food pantries-Central Baptist (NLR), St. Mark's Episcopal Church (Little Rock), and Park Hill Christian Church (NLR). Many thanks to the volunteers who helped sort out the food for these food pantries-Don Woods, Betty Seymour, Karen Chisholm, and Sheryl Stewart. We will continue throughout the year to gather any of your donations for the Park Hill Christian Church food pantry; these may be left in the brown box located in the church narthex.
