CAREY'S CONVERSATIONS

"Words without thoughts never to heaven go."
Shakespeare

As I mentioned in last week's Evangelist we will be changing our weekly format of The Evangelist. The Evangelist will go from a weekly to a monthly publication but we will continue to send out a communication on a weekly basis. This weekly 'communication' is what I would like to write about this week.

We would like to go to a news format for our weekly publication. We will be endeavoring to make it much more succinct in an effort to help us all be better informed without such a long length. Many churches and organizations have gone to some form of electronic news to keep their parishioners and members informed of upcoming events. This who has been receiving a paper copy will continue to do so while everyone else will receive it via email.

What I would like your help with is coming up with a name for the new weekly publication. The Evangelist will continue to be called "The Evangelist" but we would like a different name for the weekly edition. So starting today, I would ask that you send in your ideas for a new name. You may email them to Caroline: [email protected]

Speaking of Caroline - WELCOME BACK! She and baby "Maddie" are back in the office so do feel free to drop by and say hello! Many thanks to the office volunteers that helped cover the bases while she was out on maternity leave.

Yours in Christ,

Carey+

DEACON'S BENCH

GreenFaith

Last Saturday Valerie Smith, Wendy Hendrix, and I attended a conference at St. Margaret's put onby GreenFaith, an interfaith coalition for the environment founded in 1992 for churches and people of all faiths to help become better environmental stewards.  We worshiped together with other faith groups, Catholics, Protestants, Episcopalians, as well as Jews, Moslems, Hindus and particularly learned much about our water and food supply in Arkansas and about how environmental issues affect those in poverty  the greatest especially our neighbors in the Mississippi Delta. The issues are overwhelming, but there is great hope and we especially learned many ideas about how we could make a difference as a people of faith in our church and individually for issues of climate change and protecting our environment as a sacred ministry.  We will be forming a focus group to talk about environmental issues at St. Luke's. If this is a ministry you might be interested in, email or call me. [email protected] 501 4258525.

OUTREACH

Volunteers needed for Bread for Vets: If you are interested in helping deliver bread and the other baked goods one Monday in any of the next six months, please sign up in the Narthex or you may contact Jeannie Fry at 501 941 0430 or at [email protected]. Volunteers are needed to pick up the baked goods from Panera Bread in the Lakewood Shopping Center and take it to St. Francis House one Monday morning a month.  Panera Bread in North Little Rock will be making fresh baked goods once a month for our parish to deliver to the vets that are housed at St. Francis House. Panera usually donates day old products, but in our case they wanted to make fresh baked goods for St. Francis House!  So, please visit Panera Bread in its North Little Rock location, and say thank you!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Plans are to continue work on the house on Cynthia Street

on designated Saturdays starting at 8 a.m.
If you would like to be sure you are on the volunteer email list for future workdays, please contact HH Volunteer coordinator Ginni Agar, at [email protected], or 376-4434 ext. 21.  Ginni will know when and what type of work is coming up.  (St. Luke's Volunteers from March 9 should be on the list, but you may want to check).  There are 3 projects going on in Pulaski Co. right now - 'our' house is on Cynthia Drive.

FOOD PANTRY: Food pantry Sunday will be next week,May 12th. Donations for Park Hill Christian's food pantry may be placed in the box in the Narthex.
