Welcome Amanda Bridges to the indigenous family of artists! Amanda adds her whimsical line of colorful pottery to our dynamic handmade collection. Creative and clever, this design series is inspired by molecules and hand-formed in an earthen-red clay with terra sigillata and sgraffito work with oxide washes.
"My work is a marriage between my love of clay and drawing, creating pottery that is both fun to look at as well as functional. My ultimate objective is for my pottery to increase the joy of the user beyond simply its visual or tactile aspect and become fully integrated into the ritual of sharing food, conversation and life. The pieces become a part of the home rather than just a part of a collection of other pieces in the cupboard, and are reached for naturally in preference to the other pieces. Because of a feeling of connection, the piece is "theirs", rather than simply available. My art often incorporates highly embellished surfaces. I have a diverse range of influences, drawing inspiration from nature, textiles and iconography, and approach my pottery surfaces as blank canvases. I use various decorating techniques to create pieces which are visually interesting."

"I am a professional working ceramic artist and I create one-of-a-kind artworks. I reside in Milford, Ohio with my dog Gus and my husband Paul. I work and teach in my home studio.
For ten years I sculpted dogs, cats and other animals out of clay. I also made functional ware on the wheel. I began my training as a potter at Annie's Mud Pie Shop (now Queen City Clay) in 2003. Animals play a large role in my inspiration for my designs in the ceramic ware.
Now I combine animal sculpture with functional ceramics by carving the images onto plates, cups and other vessels in the sgraffito tradition. All artwork pottery are both decorative and functional ware"
