Please help us welcome Bethany Butters of Berea, KY to our indigenous family of artists!
We discovered Bethany & her work at the Kentucky Crafted show among the Emerging Artists. We loved her unique forms, the earthy colors, the honeycombs, and the bees! For good measure, she also included a few sculpted bats & moths.
Find serving trays, small vase / jugs, mugs, cups, and teapots.
"As a native to Kentucky I grew up wandering through the woods, catching frogs at the pond, and listening to family stories at the dinner table. My work integrates both the industrial history and the vibrant nature in Kentucky by reflecting the textures and colors found in old river industrial parks, coal mines and the vibrant shades of the hillsides. It is an ode to the hard workers both human and inhuman, the steam mechanics and the bees. In this way each piece no matter how unique relates to the other. It creates a harmony between the mechanical and the botanical, with a bit of imagination to keep things interesting." ~ Bethany Butters

Stunning new collection of sculptural, mixed-metals jewelry by Amy Greely has arrived! Discover her newest lovely florals and other organic-inspired forms along with sleek, modern abstracts that make for a selection with something for every jewelry lover!
"For me, it is all about observation and where we choose to focus our attention. It is an opportunity to slow down enough to become fully aware of the beauty that surrounds us every day with a quiet moment; a deep breath. Perhaps a walk in the woods on a crisp autumn day, or the hush of dawn as the sun rises, chasing patterns through the trees." ~ Amy Greely

Delightful new collection of colorful, stamped pottery from local clay gal, Glenda Suttman has arrived! Find a great assortment of serving bowls & trays, along with vases, earring holders, and ikebana vessels.
"I am a self taught clay artist who incorporates various textures in hand building. I am always looking at objects and wondering what kind of imprint the item will leave in clay. My work is influenced by the time spent as a child in my mother's bakery where she baked elaborate wedding and theme cakes. Many handbuilding techniques are similar to baking. The best part? No calories!" ~ Glenda Suttman

artTILE 2016 ~ tiles, why tiles, you might ask?
artTILE .......it all started back when Diane (owner of indigenous) was working at A Show of Hands in the 90s, part-time while earning her fine arts degree from Mount St Joseph. A Columbus-area artist, Tamara Jaeger, started selling her handpainted & incised (sgraffito), 6" tiles at the shop. The intimate size, designs, color and detail intrigued Diane so she bought one - then another with the next delivery, then two more with the next batch, and so on.... Not sure exactly what it was about TILES, but she was hooked ......
........ that is where the collecting started.
Her infatuation with this classic art form, lead to her continued search for more artists creating tile, and the annual tile extravaganza starting at indigenous seven years ago. One-by-one, the crew has joined in on the fun & a little tile obsession. Growing to our most-anticipated show each year, we suspect we've lured a few of our patrons in our tile-enthusiasts club too!
