Wassail Walk ~ Thursday, December 20 |
meet-the-artist ~ melissa senetar
thursday, december 20 ~ 12 noon - 8pm |
|
Watch Melissa Senetar demonstrate her use of naturally expired insect wings to create magnificent jewelry while perusing all the treasures in her trunk show! |
Dr. Melissa Senetar is a Kentucky native and self-taught artist who followed a very unconventional path to jewelry-making. She began beading as a way to relax while earning her Ph.D at the University of Kentucky. After a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin she moved back to Kentucky to follow both passions in science and art. Lucky us! |
Insect wings from around the world are reclaimed and preserved in Melissa's jewelry. Using two preservation methods, wings are transformed from delicate instruments of flight to durable jewelry, while maintaining their natural colors and patterns. Each piece is individually handcrafted and meticulously sealed to make a perfectly enveloped wing that is resistant to wear-and-tear. Each piece is a labor of love that takes several days to complete with no two pieces ever alike. Melissa's jewelry incorporates numerous species of temperate and tropical insects in its jewelry designs. Some insects are only available seasonally. None are intentionally harmed or members of an endangered species. Insects that are indigenous to Kentucky are collected by hand in local parks and along roadsides. Other insects are obtained from either domestic or exotic butterfly farms that breed insects for educational purposes. |
Join your family & friends from 5-8pm for warm wassail (spiced red wine) and holiday treats while wandering the winter wonderland of handmade arts & crafts all to benefit the American Cancer Society. 10% of our sales will be donated to this incredible organization. |

Bill & Elaine Snell~ easley, sc
Husband and wife, Bill and Elaine Snell, work as a team to create their interesting metal sculptures. All their artwork starts with an original drawing that is refined and translated into a pattern. Pieces are cut from mild steel or copper with a plasma cutter. The intricate details are inspired by classic paper-cutting techniques and the use of the natural black steel color displays the artwork's delicate silhouette. All pieces are finished with a clear lacquer and make a beautiful addition to any home or garden. |
Ken Swinson ~ maysville, ky
Local printmaker, Ken Swinson uses traditional printmaking techniques, such as woodcuts and monotypes, to illustrate his adventures cycling through the countryside. His prints make the perfect gift to new neighbors and traveling friends. |
Richard Kolb ~ louisville, ky
Something for everyone- Richard Kolb's creative critters truly bring out the giggles in us all.
