Public Health Department Wins Award

The Public Health Department will be receiving the Business Case for Breastfeeding Award on January 24, 2014.  The department is receiving the Silver Award given by the Maternal and Child Health Coalition at their quarterly meeting on the 24th

The goal of the Business Case for Breastfeeding program is to help companies successfully retain their employees after childbirth by focusing on two components:

  1. providing a private space dedicated to breastfeeding
  2. providing work-site support

By providing these things, employees will be more loyal and this saves the employer money.  These savings include retention of experienced employees, reduction in sick time of both moms and dads, and lower health care and insurance costs.

Unified Government Road Closures and Announcements
17th Street from Central Ave. to Armstrong - Orville Ave from N. 13th Street to Nth 17th

The Unified Government Public Works Department would like to inform residents of a major project that is expected to cause disruption in traffic flow.

The Kansas Gas Service Contractor began replacing the gas main on 17th Street from Central Avenue to Armstrong and on Orville Avenue from N. 13th Street to N. 17th Street on Monday, January 13th

It is anticipated that the project will take approximately 65 days to complete.  There will be several pavement cuts on both 17th St. and Orville Ave.  The installation of the new gas main will be directional bored underground, usually under sidewalks or grass areas.  Once the gas main installation has been completed, most service lines installed to the residential dwellings will be replaced along with gas meters.

Residents should be receiving door hanger notifications shortly from the contractor.  The notification should provide contact information in case residents have issues or questions related to this project.

be detonated at a later date.

Crews will close northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, January 16 to accommodate the blast. MoDOT has designated a public viewing area at E.H. Young Riverfront Park, 1001 Argosy Parkway in Riverside, Mo.
