"Healthy Campus" Plan to be Unveiled
Mayor Mark Holland and Gould Evans Architects will unveil the proposed plan for the "Healthy Campus" project site in downtown KCK during a special meeting Thursday, October 9 at 5:30pm in the Commission Chambers at KCK City Hall.
Gould Evans was hired as a consultant to begin a master planning process in May of this year and their proposal includes input received from hundreds of community members and stakeholders.
The presentation of the plan design will occur at 5:30pm. Stakeholder break-out groups will be conducted at 6:15pm. In 2009, Wyandotte County was ranked last in overall health by the Kansas Health Institute, which kick-started the Healthy Communities Wyandotte Initiative. Addressing the health rankings is a top priority of Mayor Mark Holland.
Of particular concern is the presence of a food desert in KCK's Downtown community. The Mayor's vision for the Healthy Campus is anchored by a new grocery store, a new community center and expanded green space for recreational activity near the intersection of 10th and Minnesota Avenue.
Thursday's meeting will include breakout sessions to gather reaction and input from stakeholders and the public. The presentation will be broadcast on UGTV (Time Warner Ch. 2, WOW Ch. 25, and Google Fiber Ch. 141) and later archived on the Unified Government's YouTube Channel.
The final presentation is slated to go before the Unified Government Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners later in the year after feedback from Thursday's presentation is incorporated

UG Launches New Website
Progress continues on our customer service and innovation initiatives as the Unified Government launched a new website last Friday! The look of the webpage has changed dramatically and the functionality has improved. Information has been organized on the home page to help you find what you need with less searching.
There are more interactive tools that make it easier to find information. We added a new destination for all online payments and services. Information is better organized and streamlined by subject and topic.
Other improvements include information and quick links located in a more organized fashion on the Homepage to allow you to get where you want to go with one click; new layout and color scheme provides a more refreshing look and feel; improved search optimization; drop down menus on top navigation for quicker scanning and access of information; and social media buttons placed with contact information
This is just the latest tool we are using to help keep the public up-to-date. In an environment dominated by sound bites, it can hard to access the complete story, and that's why we are always striving to improve the way we communicate with you and be more transparent.
For three consecutive years the Unified Government website, www.wycokck.org , has been awarded the Sunshine Award by the National Sunshine Coalition for transparency and the volumes of information presented.

Road Closures
Based on information provided by both the UG's Public Works Department and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), we are able to provide motorist living in Wyandotte County an update on road and highway projects.
This information can be useful to prepare individuals, commuting to and from work, with early warnings on minor delays. This also encourages motorists to use alternate routes due to land and ramp closures.
