Greetings!

I believe the words "icon" and "legacy" are tossed around a little too frequently in today's world.  However, last week we lost an individual who defined what it means to leave a legacy. His iconic presence is like a ripple on that water that will always be present whether he is with us or not.

It was Joe who was the one who rolled up his sleeves and got to work on the dreams and ideas put forth by the Fraser family during the island's early development days.  Joe had more than his share of great ideas that became great contributions to the Lowcountry, but his reserved nature and humility always led the way.  There's a wonderful quote that says "it's amazing what you can get done if you don't worry about who gets the credit."  That phrase fits Joe Fraser like a glove.

Thanks to Joe's contribution, we have a renowned PGA TOUR event-the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing.  Thanks to Joe's contribution we have the Heritage Classic Foundation which has donated millions of dollars to local charities and given countless students a shot at a better life thanks to its scholarship program.  Thanks to Joe's contributions, the ecologically-sensitive development that started it all-Sea Pines, is known the world over.  The design philosophy shared by the Fraser family serves as a model of development to this day.

Joe Fraser, or "Papa Joe" as he was affectionately known, was ahead of his time.  When others said it couldn't be done, Joe just simply did it.  The combination of passion, perseverance and humility that was Joe Fraser leaves a positive mark on the world that won't be forgotten.

I'll miss Joe's presence around the island, but he's still with us in so many ways.  That's truly what it means to leave a legacy....that's Joe Fraser.

Sincerely,
