White Barn Farm will offer 60 shares of the harvest for 2011.  The CSA begins in early June and runs until late October, for a total of 22 weeks. Tasty Tots and Mediterranean Quinoa Salad

 

Let's Move!, in association with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is challenging school nutrition professionals, chefs, students, parents, and interested community members to create tasty, healthy, exciting new recipes for inclusion on school lunch menus across the country.

Participants will form teams, develop, document and prepare at least one healthy recipe in one of three categories (Whole Grains, Dark Green and Orange vegetables, or Dry Beans and Peas). Their creations will be served in the school's cafeteria and rated by students.  Read more...

Thursday April 14th 2011 - AHA! Downtown New Bedford - 'Sustainable Earth' (5pm-9pm)  SEMAP Discussion 7PM @ The Ocean Explorium, Union St. New Bedford, MA 

SEMAP's Executive Director, Bridget Alexander will present the Why, Where, and How of Local Food, and the many reasons why buying local produce and supporting small scale agriculture can help our carbon reduction.  Co-presenter, Mercy Cover will announce SEEAL's newest environmental iniative, the SouthCoast Energy Challenge (SEC).  The SEC campaign and new website is geared to help residents of  SouthCoast discover easy and effective ways to reduce their carbon output all while building community!

Thursday April 14th, 2011 - FREE Screening of 'A Chemical Reaction'

Sometimes it takes an individual and sometimes a community to change the way we treat our environment.  Join us for a FREE screening of the award-winning documentary film 'A Chemical Reaction' by Paul Tukey, author of the "Organic Lawn Care Manual" and founder of SafeLawns. The film tells the inspirational story of how the town of Hudson, Quebec banned chemical lawn and garden pesticides in 1991 after focus was brought to the issue by dermatologist, Dr. June Irwin. Hosted by Taylor Kane, a Northeast Organic Farming Association Accredited Landcare Professional and landscape designer.
