Basketball Love
The Director of
Operations for the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League asked Chief Thomas Nolan to create some buzz within the Upper Merion Police Department by creating an Adult Basketball League. The effort was intended to expand the community police presence for the GNAL. Former Upper Merion High School graduate, Detective Elbert (Elbie) Lee, put the ball in motion, premiering the UMPD Basketball team on Saturday, January 30, 2016. The team played with HEART but lost 51 - 31. Players hope to rebound with a win on Saturday, February 6, against the John Middleton Company. Eleven games will be played before the championship game in April.

The Township is auctioning the old Rooster previously located at Norview Farms. The auction is being held on eBay from Friday, January 29, until Monday, February 8, with proceeds benefiting the Upper Merion Township Foundation. Heart Health Month
Swedish History Program
Swedes Along the Delaware and Schulykill will be presented on Saturday, February 13, at 2:00 PM in Christ Church (Old Swedes) Hall. Come and hear how Swedish settlers overcame challenges from the Dutch, the English and the Penn's in the late 1600s, mid 1800s, and in 1957.
Congrats UM
Upper Merion Township will receive the King of Prussia District Planning Award for installing Adaptive Traffic Signal Technology on King of Prussia's major roadways. The award will be given on Thursday, March 24 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Maggiano's Little Italy. Shout out to Chaz Devitis for leading the team in making this happen!

E-HISTORY FACT

Graduating Class of 1899
On June 29, 1899, the 13th annual commencement for 8 of the Upper Merion Public Schools was held at Stewart Fund Hall. The graduating class consisted of 6 pupils, 2 boys and 6 girls. Among the graduates was Lydie Dyson from King of Prussia. Lydie was the first known black student to graduate.
