Upper Merion's three volunteer fire companies were recognized for their exceptional fire prevention programs. The Firemen's Association of the State of Pennsylvania honored Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company with second place in the 5,000 to 9,999 population group and Swedeland Volunteer Fire Company for first place in the 5,000 to 9,999 population group. The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company was awarded first place for communities of more than 10,000 people. Bill Jenaway, Vice Chair, Board of Supervisor (who also serves as President of the KOP Volunteer Fire Company) accepted the awards on behalf of all three companies at the annual FASP convention in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania.
