PUBLIC WORKS

Congratulations!
Long -time employee Gary Picard was promoted to Collection Systems Superintendent. The position was held by Wayne Brown who retired this summer. During the 1970s, Mr. Picard worked his way up through what was known at the Wastewater Department. He eventually became the Superintendent of Pumping Stations operations in the late 1980s. In 1990, the Township consolidated all the various Planning, Road & Park Maintenance, and Wastewater Departments into what is now known as our Public Works Department.

E-HISTORY FACT |
Lafayette Ambulance Origins
In October 1960, with sponsorship from the Kiwanis Club of Valley Forge, the Joint Service Club Committee and the Hospital Study Committee recommended an ambulance organization for Upper Merion rather than a hospital. The original intent was to form an ambulance service capable of performing a full range of rescue services. The first ambulance, an "International," was housed in June 1962 at the Kunda Sign Company on DeKalb Pike.
